AirbusAirbus is an aircraft manufacturing subsidiary of EADS(European Aeronautic Defense and Space

Company), a European aerospace company. Based in Blagnac, France, a suburb of Toulouse, and with

significant activity across Europe, the company produces approximately half of the world's jet

airliners. Airbus employs around 63,000 people at sixteen sites in four European Union countries:

France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain

In the mid-1960s, tentative negotiations commenced regarding a European collaborative approach. Individual aircraft companies had already envisaged

such a requirement; in 1959 Hawker Siddeley had advertised an "Airbus" version of the Armstrong Whitworth AW.660 Argosy, which would "be able to

lift as many as 126 passengers on ultra short routes at a direct operating cost of 2d. per seat mile." However, European aircraft manufacturers were aware

of the risks of such a development and began to accept, along with their governments, that collaboration was required to develop such an aircraft and to compete with the more powerful US manufacturers. At the 1965 Paris Air Show major European airlines informally discussed their requirements for a new "airbus" capable of transporting 100 or more passengers over short to medium distances at a low cost. The same year Hawker Siddeley (at the

urging of the UK government) teamed with Breguet and Nord to study airbus designs. The Hawker Siddeley/Breguet/Nord group's HBN 100 became the

basis for the continuation of the project. By 1966 the partners were Sud Aviation, later Aerospatiale (France), Arbeitsgemeinschaft Airbus, later

Deutsche Airbus (Germany) and Hawker Siddeley (UK). A request for funding was made to the three governments in October 1966.On 25 July 1967 the

three governments agreed to proceed with the proposal.

The Airbus A300 is a short- to medium-range wide body jet airliner. Launched in 1972 as the world's first twin- Engined

wide body, it was the first product of Airbus Industry, a consortium of European aerospace companies, fully owned today by EADS. The A300 can typically seat 266 passengers in a two-class layout, with a maximum range of 4,070 nautical miles (7,540 km) when fully loaded, depending on model.

Launch customer Air France introduced the type into service on 30 May 1974. Production of the A300 ceased in July 2007,

along with its smaller A310 derivative. Freighter sales for which the A300 competed are to be fulfilled by a newA330-

200F derivative.

The Airbus A310 is a medium- to long-range twin-engined wide body jet airliner.

Launched in July 1978, it was the second aircraft to enter production by Airbus Industries, the consortium of European aerospace

companies which is now owned by EADS. The A310 is a shortened derivative of the A300, the

first twin-engined wide body airliner.

Airbus A320

The Airbus A320 family consists of short- to medium-range, narrow-body, commercial passenger jet airliners manufactured by Airbus. The family

includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, and the ACJ business jet. Final assembly of the family in Europe takes place in Toulouse, France,

and Hamburg, Germany. Since 2009, a plant in Tianjin in the People's Republic of China has also started producing aircraft for Chinese airlines. In June 2012, Airbus announced plans to begin building the 319, 320, and 321

variants in Mobile, Alabama. The aircraft family can accommodate up to 220 passengers and has a range of 3,100 to 12,000 km (1,700 to 6,500 nmi),

depending on model.

The first member of the A320 family—the A320—was launched in March 1984, first flew on 22 February 1987, and was first delivered in 1988. The family was soon extended to include the A321 (first delivered 1994), the A319 (1996), and the A318 (2003). The A320 family pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, as well as side-stick controls, in commercial aircraft. There has been a continuous improvement process

since introduction.

The Airbus A330 is a wide-body twin-engine jet airliner made by Airbus, a division of EADS. Versions of the A330 have

a range of 7,400 to 13,430 kilometers (4,000 to 7,250 nmi) and can accommodate up to 335 passengers in a two-class

layout or carry 70 tonnes (150,000 lb) of cargo.The origin of the A330 dates to the 1970s as one of several conceived derivatives of Airbus's first airliner, the A300. The A330 was developed in parallel with the A340, which shared many common airframe components but differed in number of engines. In June 1987, after receiving orders from various customers, Airbus launched the A330 and A340. The A330 was Airbus's first airliner offered with the choice of three

engines: General Electric CF6, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, and Rolls-Royce Trent 700.

The Airbus A340 is a long-range four-engine wide-body commercial passenger jet airliner. Developed and produced

by Airbus Industry, a consortium of European aerospace companies, which is now fully owned by EADS(European

Aeronautic Defense and Space Company N.V.), the A340 was assembled at Toulouse, France. It seats up to 375 passengers in

the standard variants and 440 in the stretched −600 series. Depending on the model, it has a range of between 6,700 to

9,000 nautical miles (12,400 to 17,000 km). It is similar in design to the twin- engined A330 with which it was concurrently designed.

Its distinguishing features are four high-bypass turbofan engines and three-bogie main landing gear.

Airbus manufactured the A340 in four fuselage lengths. Initial A340 versions share the fuselage and wing of the A330 while the

−500/-600 models are longer and have larger wings.

The Airbus A350 is a family of long-range, wide-body jet airliners under development by European aircraft

manufacturer Airbus The A350 will be the first Airbus with both fuselage and wing structures made primarily of carbon

fiber-reinforced polymer. It will carry 250 to 350 passengers in three-class seating, depending on variant.

The A350 was born as an A330-derived minimum-changed competitor to the Boeing 787 Dream liner and the

larger Boeing 777, but was unanimously rejected by prospective customers. Airbus was forced to redesign the initial proposal, but airlines voiced support for a complete

overhaul. The eventual proposal incorporates major changes, which Airbus says will be more fuel-efficient, with up to 8%

lower operating cost than the Boeing 787.The redesigned A350 was marketed by Airbus as the A350 XWB, where the XWB

stands for Extra Wide Body

The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus.

It is the world's largest passenger airliner and, due to its size, many airports have had to expand their facilities to properly accommodate it. Designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market,

the A380 made its initial flight on 27 April 2005 and entered initial commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development, before

receiving the A380 designation. The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the fuselage,

with a width equivalent to a wide-body aircraft.Provides seating for 525 people in a typical three-class configuration or

up to 853 people in all-economy class configurations.The largest order, for 90 aircraft, was from Emirates.
