Savitribai phule

Savitribai phule was a very famous social reformer of India who was born on 3 jan 1831 in a small village named as Naigaum in maharashtra . She was a victim of child marriage as she was married to Jyotiba Phule at a small age of 9 . Her husband needed some female teachers to join his bandwagon of his reform works. Thus he taught and trained his wife as a teacher. After completing her studies , she opened a school for girls in 1848 in Pune. Savitribai continued teaching girls even after facing very strong oppositions from the society . She lost all her courage after facing such ill treatments from the society and even thought to give up but she continued only because of her husband’s support . She not only contributed in educational activities but also supported her husband in each of his reforms. She also published some books of poems such as KAVYA PHULE In 1934 and BAVAN KASHI SUBODH in1982

Mithuben petit Mithuben petit was one of the recognised

reformers of India . She was born on 11 April 1892 in a family of a well known Parsi Baronet and industrialist , Sir den Shaw Maneckji Petit . With her devotion and selfless service she became a source for joy , courage , hope and enlightenment for the poor people of India. She was greatly influenced by Gandhiji’s views and decided to join him in and help him in his activities . She established a ashram in Maroli in the name of Kasturba Vanat Shala . In her ashram the children of families of fisher folk , Harijans and Adivasis were admitted and taught various things such as weaving , spinninig , dairy farming and leatherwork . She dedicated her whole life for the poor and downtrodden

RANI RAJWADE Rani lakshimibai Rajwade was born in 1887 .

She was the eldest child of sir Mropant Joshi who was a nationalist , social reformer and a promoter of women’s emancipation and education . Rani Rajwade practised medicine in Bombay for fourteen years and took active interest in the work of all india women welfare’s conference , later , she was elected secretary of A I W C for two years , and thereafter became its president . She was the first Indian woman activist to subscribe the fund started to help Indian Passive Resisters in South Africa . Besides being an activist in the field of woman ‘s education , she had a great interest in the arts and handicrafts of India . Rani Rajwade passed away in 1984 at the age of 97 . She was active throughout her life .

Mithan J Lam Mithan J Lam was the daughter of Ardeshir and

Hirabai Tata . She was born in 1898 . She spent her early childhood in Phulgaon ( a small village ) . When she was studying in school she came under the influence of Annie Besant . She described her in her memories as one of the most brilliant and forceful orators whose ideas flowed like a gushing stream , raising her listeners to great emotional heights . She was the first indian woman to be qualified as Barrister-in-law from Lincoln’s Inn . She was the first Indian women lawyer at Bombay high court . She had a self sacrificing and compassionate character . She conducted special classes for the unprivileged and neglected women of India . The plight of the poor and needy touched her and she worked sincerely for their cause . She also started an agricultural school for rural boys.

Maneka Gandhi Maneka Gandhi was born in a sikh family

in 1956 to Lt. Tarlochan Singh Anand and Amardeep Kaur Anand in Delhi . She completed her education at St Lawrence School , Sanawar and later at Lady Shriram college for women in New Delhi . There she earned an ISC . She enrolled in modelling at Bombay Dyeing and there she met Sanjay Gandhhi . She has been a minister in four governments and authored a number of books concerning the areas of law and animal welfare . Maneka Gandhi , though not attached much with the political scenarios of the Nehru – Gandhi family , was much popular for her own strong views and hold in social welfare committees .
