Data base functioning

A data base refers to a collection of related data and a database system is basically a computer based record keeping system.

In a typical file processing system, permanent record s are stored in various files. A number of different application programs are written to extract records from and add records to the appropriate files. But this scheme has a number of major limitations and disadvantages such as data redundancy ,data inconsistency.C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\MEDIA\CAGCAT10\j0196400.wmfHow data base works?

The database systems do not maintain separate copies of the same data rather, all the data are kept at one kept at one place and al the application that require data refer to the centrally maintained data .now if any change is to be made to data it will be made at just one place and the same changes information will be available to all the applications referring to it.

Advantages of data base

Database reduce the data redudancy to a large extent.

Databases can control data inconsistency to a large extent.

Databases facilitate sharing of data.

Databases enforces standards

Databases can ensure data security

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\MEDIA\CAGCAT10\j0195384.wmfFlat data base and relational data base

When all the data is stored in one file then such a database is called flat database. A spreadsheet is an example of flat database.

When the data is stored in multiple tables that are linked via common field then such a database is called relational database. E.g. Microsoft access.

DBMS of Openoffice.org

Base which is the popular RDBMS a system that manage your database by offering a variety of features. BASE is also known as Ooo Base. Using BASE you can manage all your information from a single zip file that stores all related information files. The database file of base is stored with extension .

select the option create tables using table wizard to create the data base.

Specify the name for newly created database.

Read the information provided to you specify the information sought and next

Now select the desired fields from the tables shown. Firstly selects the samples table and then selects the field from it.

You may set fields data types and formats in this step.

Creating data base

6. determine the primary key.
Specify the title for newly created table as shown here. You also need to specify the further action that you want.
Do as per your selected course of action

Setting primary key

Before you create your tables you need to design it properly. You must decide about number of fields required other property and the PRIMARY KEY.

Field name

Field types or data types

Length

Field property

Primary key

To set the primary key you need to follow the step-

Open a table in design view.

Select the field or fields you want to define as primary key.

Right click on the row selector button of the selected fields and click primary key.

Open existing database

To open an already existing database you can follow either of the two ways-

Selected the options open an existing database database from the open dialog box.

Then select the desired database name.

Then click finish.

or

Press Ctrl+O

Select the desired database and click OK.

Query

Basic steps to create a query in design view-

Select the object type queries in the database.

Perform the command create Query in the design view.

Select and add the tables from which to retrieve the result

Select the tables fields that are to be included in the query result.

Set the query criteria for the fields

Save the query entering a name for it.
