LEAD BANK SCHEME
NCC set up in Dec. 196
7 to determine the priorities of bank creditamong various sectors of the economy
NCC appointed a study group on the organizational framework forthe implementation of social objectives in Oct.68 under theChairmanship of Prof. D R Gadgil.
The study group found that the Commercial Banks had penetrated
only 5000 villages as of June67 and out of the institutional credit toagriculture, at 39%, the share was negligible at 1%, the balancebeing met by the co-operatives. \
The Banking needs of the rural areas in general and backward inparticular were not taken care of by the Commercial Banks.
Besides, the credit needs of Agriculture, SSI and allied activities
remained neglected. Therefore, the group recommended the adoption of an area
approach for bridging the spatial and structural credit gaps.
Later, All India Rural Credit Review Committee 1969 endorsed theview that CBs should increasingly come forward to finance activitiesin rural areas.

FINDINGS
While looking at agricultural sector the planed and actual contribution made bythe different bank under the lead bank scheme from 2007 to 2010 is representthat during the 2007-2008.
Bhopal DCCB has the highest contribution I.e. around 270000 in respect to otherbank and union bank is not contributing during the period.
In the year 2008-2009 Bhopal DCCB again took the lead in contributing in to this
sector. In this year 208-09the contribution of other banks was also rises from the previous
year.
In the year 2009 -2010 Punjab national bank although the planed contribution of the bank is higher from the other bank.
But the actual contribution of PNB is not up to the expectation it just the 10% of planed and their has been increase in the contribution of the other bank from the
previous year. During the period 2007-2008 the state bank of India in this sector has the highest
contribution I.e.230000 in comparison to other bank and in this sector also theunion bank is not contributing any thing.
8/6/2019 ppt_on_MOBI
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/pptonmobi 42/44
During the year 2008-2009 state bank again took the initiation and becomes themajor contributor to this sector.
Punjab bank has the highest planed contribution but it actual contribution is only7% and more or less the over all contribution during the period is highproportionally from the previous year.
In the year 2009-2010 the contribution of banks is higher than the previous year.
The contribution of Punjab national bank is also rises from the previous year. Andmore contribution is done in SME in respect to Agriculture by the lead bankumbrella.
The SBI has increased its performance from 2008.
HDFC has reduced planned expenditure from last year and also performed badlyas against planned
UBI was nowhere in 2008 but has significant contribution in 2009
The point of contention is in private players not taking much of burden
Since other players good at servicing others BOI has balanced its portfolio
The weaker section and women have almost similar weight age in all banks
