Case Study: On December 27 th, a 32 year old woman, pregnantwith her second child, shows up to Labor and Delivery withher partner after being seen in an OB office. She is in her 38thweek of pregnancy. The mother had reported to her OB thatshe was having some back pain and thought she was

contracting. The OB examined her, couldn’t detectcontractions but the Mom was very uncomfortable. The OBthen sent Mom to the hospital for monitoring and evaluation.On admission to Labor and De livery, the Mom was placed on amonitor and no contractions were noted. The nurse reports thisto the mother, and told her that she would notify the doctor on

duty. The Mother reports she thought she was coming to thehospital to have her labor induced. The nurse reports that isnot standard to induce labor for a pregnancy less than 39weeks without other indications, but she will let the doctorknow what the mother’s understanding was.
