PQSCADA Server
Note: This drawing depicts the flow of data
The PQSCADA server is the heart of the BLACKBOX data management and analysis system.
The main functionality of the PQSCADA server is shown in the figure above and further
described below with corresponding numbered marks:
1. Download: PQSCADA collects all waveform data that has been continuously
recorded in the compressed PQZIP format.
2. Process: The data is processed and organized for quick access and storage. A wide
range of electrical parameters are then calculated based on the raw PQZIP data.
The reorganized PQZIP data, and the calculated parameters with statistics
included, are stored and available on the network for later retrieval.

3. Deliver: All the electrical information, including event flagging & notifications are
delivered over a number of communication gateways. This feature includes report
exports in various compatible formats such as COMTRADE, PQDIF, CSV, RTF, HTML,
PDF, etc.
4. Visualize: Detailed data can be easily analyzed by any number of clients at any
location. The Investigator Software provides an immediate, comprehensive and
understandable picture of everything that happened within the network.

Recalculating the Parameters
This optional step allows you to recalculate any parameter(s) for a stipulated
period. For example apart from IEC 61000-4-30 Class A parameters that has
been included for PQSCADA 4.0 & later versions, the latest version PQSCADA
4.2 includes Class A parameters for Current previously only calculated forVoltage. You may therefore need to recalculate these parameters.
N OTE N OTE N OTE
We recommend that you perform this procedure only when necessary,
since it can take up a considerable amount of time (approximately two
weeks to calculate one year’s worth of data). Prior to following this
procedure configure the necessary Parameters in Node Configuration.
In addition refer to the table below as a further guide:

PQZIP UPLOAD MANAGER:
PQSCADA V4.2.2.2 & later versions allows for the PQS Server & Management
Studio to be installed on two different computers. With the PQSCADA V 4.2
you can now upload PQZIP files from a different folder location other than
the incoming folder to any selected Node. Meaning PQZIP files located on
the PQS Server's incoming folder / PQZIP files recorded by other BLACKBOX
devices can now be uploaded in this manner. This feature allows you to
manage & control the uploading process of PQZIP compressed files – see

This new column has been added in order to detail the relevant compliance
status as per the device's configuration (via Elspec's Web Interface). The
column purely provides information regarding the overall compliance status
of the last week at a resolution of 2 hours. This is a very useful tool in

User Name: Each device is shipped with a default user name (ftpuser) as
above. This name corresponds to the FTP login name set in the firmware of
the device (Access Setup section). If you wish to change the user name here,
then it also must be changed in the firmware.
Password: The password corresponds to the user name above. It should be
changed according to the device password. (The default password as shown
above is ftppassword).
Device PQZIP Folder Path: The specific path where the PQZIP folders are
stored on the device. We do not recommend changing this setting.
FTP Protocol: The default setting is Passive.

Incoming Folder Size Limit: The size of the temporary folder where the
PQZIP files are stored while they are waiting to be processed. The default is
2 GB, although this can be changes according to your available system
resources. All original PQZIP files are deleted after they are processed
unless they are backed up.
Backup Folder Size Limit: To enable this feature, check the Backup Folder
Size Limit check-box. This sets the size of the backup folder where all good
PQZIP files can be archived. When the file folder reaches its limit, the
oldest files will be deleted first.
Bad File Folder Size Limit: The size of the bad file folder where all bad
PQZIP files are kept. A file status (good or bad) is determined when the file
is processed.

The Incoming Folder is where the PQZIP files are stored while they are waiting to
be processed. Accessing the incoming folder allows you to manually download
PQZIP files from any location on your PC or external location into the incoming
folder instead of from the device.
Right click on the Node in the Downloading Column select Openincoming folder:
The PQZIP files are arranged chronologically according to time. (AFTER
THE FILES ARE PROCESSED BY THE PQSCADA, THEY WILL NO LONGER
APPEAR IN THE INCOMING FOLDER & WILL BE DELETED. SHOULD YOU
WISH TO RECALL THE FILES SEE RESET PQZIP FILES). You may select anyfile(s) from the list:

Data Processing
The Data Processing column displays the processing status of PQZIP data. In order
to activate the tools for this column, you will need to Enable the function by right
clicking anywhere in the Data Processing Column & selecting Enable:
The data processing takes place in 2 stages - namely:
Stage 1 - Data Transferral from the PQZIP to the Database, including:
Decompression & collection of waveform data sources
Data is recompressed into 1min chunks called “BINARIES”
The Binaries & Device Events are stored into the Database
RMS (V/I) are computed into 1min Summaries
After this stage has been concluded, the minimum resolution period that is
available for all the parameters, is 3 Hours.
Stage 2 - Data Processing itself:
Computation of all other parameter summaries
Computation of Class A aggregated parameters (Version 4)
Summaries are stored every 1 Min / 10 Min ( Min/Max/AVG)After this stage has been concluded, all queries may run for a period longer
than 3 Hours.
The Binaries calculated during Stage 1 are used for:
Stage 2 computation
Queries that are initiated from Elspec's Investigator Software Program for
less than 3hours. Any selected parameter is immediately computed from
the stored waveform signal in order to achieve a maximum resolution.
The summaries are used for queries that are run for a longer period than 3Hours & this consequently shortens the response time for such queries.

this specific case displays entries related to the processing status of PQZIP data.
Right click anywhere in the Data Processing Column select Log Viewer:
Use the following Filters to narrow-down your view:
Log Type: (Debug, Info, Warning, Error, Critical)
Debug: By default this option is disabled & it is used only by
an Elspec Software Technician.
Info: Will include general information on actions taken in
PQSCADA. In addition, it will also include Warnings, Error &
Critical entries.
Warning: Will include any malfunctions that the PQSCADA will
resolve by itself. The log will also include any Errors & Critical
entries.
Error: Includes malfunctions that the PQSCADA was unable to
resolve. For example failed Tasks due to an incorrect E-Mail

address. See Troubleshooting. The log will also include any
Critical entries.
Critical: Contact Elspec or your local representative.
# of Last Entries: This function will enable you to extract only the
desired number of Last Entries from the vast amount of all the
recorded data, allowing you to focus on the latest relevant data.
Start / End Date & Time: Select Start Date & Time option, shouldyou wish to change your search to include entries from a different
date & time
Entries in the Log Viewer from this column are related to the
processing status of PQZIP data & will initially automatically display
these entries. Should you wish, you may Include any other Keywords
