THE PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS,

UPPER TWICKENHAM

PENTECOST SUNDAY

PARISH MASS

ENTRANCE HYMN

C

ome, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,

and lighten with celestial fire.

Thou the anointing Spirit art,

who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.

Thy blessed unction from above

is comfort, life, and fire of love.

Enable with perpetual light

the dullness of our blinded sight.

Anoint and cheer our soiled face

with the abundance of thy grace.

Keep far from foes, give peace at home:

where thou art guide, no ill can come.

Teach us to know the Father, Son,

and thee, of both, to be but One,

that through the ages all along,

this may be our endless song:

Praise to thy eternal merit,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

PENITENTIAL RITE

THE COLLECT

O

God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast

sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation,

pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit

across the face of the earth

and, with the divine grace that was at work

when the Gospel was first proclaimed,

fill now once more the hearts of believers.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH STAND

During Eastertide we use the APOSTLES CREED

I

believe in God,

the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended into hell;

on the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;

from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Lord, hear us ORLord, in your mercy

Lord, graciously hear us. Hear our prayer.

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

HYMN AT THE PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR

C

ome down, O love divine,

seek Thou this soul of mine,

And visit it with Thine own ardour glowing.

O Comforter, draw near,

within my heart appear,

And kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.

O let it freely burn,

til earthly passions turn

To dust and ashes in its heat consuming;

And let Thy glorious light

shine ever on my sight,

And clothe me round, the while my path illuming.

Let holy charity

mine outward vesture be,

And lowliness become mine inner clothing;

True lowliness of heart,

which takes the humbler part,

And o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.

And so the yearning strong,

with which the soul will long,

Shall far outpass the power of human telling;

For none can guess its grace,

till he become the place

Wherein the Holy Spirit makes His dwelling.

Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.

The celebrant continues with the Eucharistic prayer until we sing:

H

oly, holy, holy Lord.

Holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts.

Heaven and earth, heaven and earth

Are full of your glory, Lord God of Hosts.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

B

lessed, blessed is he who comes;

Blessed, blessed is he who comes;

Blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

We all KNEEL as the Celebrant continues with the Eucharistic Prayer. After the Lord’s words are said over the bread and the chalice we use the following response:

The Mystery of Faith

W

hen we eat this bread and drink this cup,

We proclaim your death, Lord Jesus.

until you come in glory. until you come in glory.

At the end of prayer we all sing:

Amen.

COMMUNION RITE

THE LORD’S PRAYER STAND

At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

O

ur Father, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name;

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

For the Kingdom, the power

and the glory are yours

Now and for ever.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles: peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever.

Amen.

AGNUS DEI

R:Hear our prayer, hear our prayer,

Through this bread and wine we share,

May we be a sign of peace ev’rywhere.

COMMUNION

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the lamb.

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

When offered the Host or when given a blessing the response is:

Amen.

DURING HOLY COMMUNION

O

Thou Who camest from above,

The pure celestial fire to impart,

Kindle a flame of sacred love

Upon the mean altar of my heart.

There let it for Thy glory burn

With inextinguishable blaze

And trembling to its source return,

In humble prayer and fervent praise.

Jesus, confirm my heart’s desire

To work and speak and think for Thee;

Still let me guard the holy fire,

And still stir up Thy gift in me.

Ready for all Thy perfect will,

My acts of faith and love repeat,

Till death Thy endless mercies seal,

And make my sacrifice complete.

THE CONCLUDING RITES

STAND

The Lord be with you

And with your spirit.

Bow down for the blessing

At the end of each petition the response is Amen.

And may the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, ✠ and the Holy Spirit, come down on you and remain with you for ever.

Amen.

The mass is ended, go in peace, alleluia, alleluia!

The Altar party process to the Shrine of Our Lady, we all turn to face the shrine.

J

oy to thee, O Queen of Heaven, alleluia!

He who thou wast meet to bear, alleluia!

As he promised hath arisen, alleluia!

Pour for us to God thy prayer, alleluia!

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!

For the Lord is risen indeed, alleluia!

Let us pray.

O

God, who by the resurrection of thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, didst vouchsafe to give joy to the whole world; grant, we beseech thee, that through the prayers of his Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FINAL HYMN

T

hy hand, O God, has guided

thy flock, from age to age;

their wondrous tale is written,

full clear, on every page;

thy people owned thy goodness,

and we their deeds record;

and both of this bear witness;

one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

Thy heralds brought glad tidings

to greatest as to least;

they bade men rise, and hasten

to share the great King's feast;

and this was all their teaching,

in every deed and word,

to all alike proclaiming

one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

Through many a day of darkness,

through many a scene of strife,

the faithful few fought bravely,

to guard the nation's life.

Their gospel of redemption,

sin pardoned, man restored,

was all in this enfolded:

one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

And we, shall we be faithless?

shall hearts fail, hands hang down?

shall we evade the conflict,

and cast away our crown?

Not so: in God's deep counsels

some better thing is stored;

we will maintain, unflinching,

one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

Thy mercy will not fail us,

nor leave thy work undone;

with thy right hand to help us,

thy victory shall be won;

and then, by all creation,

thy name shall be adored,

and this shall be their anthem:

one Church, one Faith, one Lord.
