How Do I Create a Presentation?
• Design a series of slides• Each contains information audience needs
• Can be presented via• Printed material• Web• Web conferencing• Transparencies• Projected on screen
• Title slide is the first slide• Introduces presentation

PowerPoint Window
• Title bar – top of window• Similar to other office applications• Filename of current presentation
• MS Office button – access to commands• Printing, Saving, Sharing
• Quick Access toolbar• Save, Undo, Redo• Can be customized
• Ribbon• Organizes commands into groups

• Allows editing• Notes typed in Note Pane
• Slide Sorter• Allows easy rearrangement of slides

Creating a Slide
• Click in text area and type• Selecting, replacing, and deleting text
• Similar to Word
• Leave unnecessary placeholders blank• Will not appear during presentation
• To create another slide• Click New Slide on Home tab• Select the content layout desired

Applying a Design Theme
• Pre-designed presentation formats• Color, font, effects, background• Helps create professional-looking slide shows quickly
• Select theme• Before starting• During development• When finished
• To change Design Theme• Click Design tab• Select Theme

Saving and Opening a Presentation
• Save and Save As commands• Found on Office button menu• Enables user to place presentation in storage• Both commands are identical when first used• Adds the 2007 extension - .pptx to filename
• Save command replace existing file• Save As Command
• Allows user to change filename and/or location
• Opening previously saved files• Click Office button, click Open and select file

Selecting a Template
• Provides predetermined elements• Background, color scheme, font selection• Assists with wording
• To work with a Template• Click the Office button• Click New• Select template

• Add as many as necessary• Determine slide placement before adding
• Placement can also be adjusted later
• To add a slide• Click Home tab• Click New Slide• Select slide layout

Navigating Between Slides
• Useful to check content and readability• Normal view
• Click and drag vertical scroll bar• Or use Slide view in left pane
• Slide Sorter view• Double-click a slide to display in Normal view

Magnifying Slides
• Allows user to see text more clearly • Change Zoom setting
• Does not change font size
• Change Zoom setting in• Normal view or Slide Sorter view• Not in Slide Show
• Click and drag Zoom slider on Status bar

How Do I Format Text?
• Similar to Microsoft Word• Font size ,color, type, alignment, attributes• Special effects
• For existing text• Always select text first• Then apply formatting

Including Clip Art and Pictures
• PowerPoint contains a collection of clip art• Use photos, scanned pictures or web images• Look for slide layout that will work well with your
graphics• Object placeholder
• Even without object placeholder• Images can be inserted
• Graphics icon contains images for• Table, chart, SmartArt, picture, clip art and media clip
• Resize image once it is on the slide

Including Charts
• Convey numeric information• Many types of charts available• Insert chart into object placeholder• Resize chart• Datasheets allow data to be entered for charts
• Similar to Excel Worksheet

• Display data in columns and rows• Allows audience to see detail
• Look for object placeholder on slide• Click table• Wizard leads you through process

Preview and Print
• Presentation is designed to be projected on screen• Print handouts, transparencies, or outline• Always preview before printing• Page Setup changes page orientation• To Preview
• Click the Office button• Point to Print and click Print Preview
• To Print• Click Office the button and then click Print

Slide Transitions
• Movement from one slide to the next• Adds energy to a presentation
• Do not allow them to distract from your message
• 58 transition effects to select from• To setup transitions
• Enter Normal view• Click Animation tab• Click more on the Transitions Gallery• Click to select effect

Slide Show
• Select title slide• Slide show always begins from selected slide
• Select Slide Show view• Slides advance automatically or via mouse click
• Depends how slide advancement is setup
• Right arrow goes forward• Left arrow goes backward• ESC stops the show and takes you back to
editing mode

• A slide show is a series of slides displayed in full screen view

• To add slides to a presentation, you must select a slide layout

• You can format text in a slide much like you do in a Word document by underlining, italicizing, and aligning text
• Clip art and other images can be included in a PowerPoint presentation
• A slide can include sound effects, music, hyperlinks, and video
• Charts and tables included in a presentation help convey information in an understandable way

• You can move, edit, and delete slides• It is a good idea to preview slides in Print
