Dear Prairie Children Preschool Families, Now that October is here and we have settled into the new school routine, it is time for the fun to begin! The PTA has been busy plan-ning our Fall Festival, which will take place on Friday, October 26 at the Shoreline location. We’ll have fall-themed games, crafts, snacks, a magic show and goodies for the kids. In order for the event to be a success, we are in need of parent volun-teers. It’s so much fun to see the kids playing with their friends from class, in costume or not, and having a great time. If you’re interested in volunteering, more information is available in this newsletter. At the end of the month, the PTA will be sending home information regarding our fall fundraiser. We’ll be selling items from The Chippe Shop, a local Naperville company, to raise funds for all of the PTA’s activities and educational enrichment. The items range from candy and cookie dough to cute holiday plates, to household items and can-dles. Join the PTA The PTA needs your help to reach our membership goal this year. As a Prairie Children PTA member, a portion of your fees supports both the Illinois PTA and the National PTA — the largest child advocacy group in the country. The remainder of your fees, along with money earned through PTA fundraisers, is used to enrich your child’s educational experience at Prairie Children Preschool. PTA activities include charity drives, social events, educational enrichment programs and school presentations. The PTA also supplies the parent/teacher communication folders. Family membership is $15.00 and allows all fam-ily members to participate in planned PTA activities at no additional cost. Families without membership will pay $5.00 per event. Membership forms are available online at: http://preschool.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx?id=804

The Fall Fundraiser is Coming! We’ve joined together with The Chip Shoppe to provide a wonderful selection of quality products available for purchase, including food made in the Midwest! The profits from this sale will go towards extra activities and programs to enrich the educational experience of Prai-rie Children Preschool students. Sales will begin October 22nd. Watch for pack-ets to be sent home via backpack mail with catalogs, order forms, and additional info. Please contact Julie Sterzinger, Fundraising Chairperson, at [email protected] with any questions.

Pumpkins a’ Plenty! Fall presents great learning opportunities for our preschoolers. Keeping pumpkin season in mind, here are some fun activities to try at home. Pumpkin Carving & Decorating Encourage your child’s senses by having them scoop the guts of a pumpkin out. If you like to bake and eat your pumpkin seeds, they can help sort and wash the seeds in water. Instead of carv-ing, young children can paint their pumpkins or cover them in glue, glitter, buttons, stickers, etc. Pumpkin Reads Before heading to the pumpkin patch this year, pick up some pumpkin-themed books to get your kids ex-cited about the fall tradition of pumpkin picking. Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White is a popular book that

also teaches its readers about sharing. Pumpkin Decorations Create a pumpkin windsock from a paper plate, streamers, and basic craft supplies. An easy, fun way for the kids to make something special for fall.

Reflections Art Program is Here!

Prairie Children Preschool is participating in the Reflections Program this year. Reflections is a program of National PTA whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. Entries can be essays, poems, stories, drawings, paintings, photographs, musical scores, or videos. Submissions are judged at the local level and entries may advance to the council, district, region, or state PTA levels. Top state award-winning entries advance to the national level of judging.

The theme for 2012-2013 is “The Magic of a Moment”. Additional details, along with the entry forms, are attached. All entries should be submitted to your child's teacher by October 19th.

Entry into this program is FREE and all it takes to participate is just a little effort from parents and your child's imagination. Do not miss out on this opportunity to showcase your child's talents and make this program a success.

Please contact the chairperson with any questions:Julie Sterzinger at (630) 717-5192 or [email protected]

The full rules for each category are available on the PTA/Documents portion of the school website, along with electronic copies of the attached entry form and rules-in-brief.
