TAKE PART IN THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER 2020

Thank you to National Day of Prayer for providing the text of these prayer points and prayer.

The 2020 National Day of Prayer (NDOP) will be observed on Thursday, May 7. On this day, we will do all we can to mobilize unified public prayer for America, even amidst the coronavirus situation that brings social distancing and cancels physical gatherings. Will you join us by attending a virtual prayer observance on this day or create one for other people to join you?

Every town, every city, and every county in America needs at least one prayer observance. This cannot happen without you and many others ensuring that we have at least one prayer gathering in every town, city, and county. While we have multiple observances in some cities, we may have towns with no event at all. Let’s also remember, with millions inhabiting some of our cities, we can never have enough gatherings.

With over 300,000 plus churches in America that are aligned with at least 200 denominations, the Lord’s footprint is all over America. His footprint is the local churches in America. This permits another wide-open door to have endless prayer observances across the nation. There is still a great love for America today. Even those who are not Christ-followers know that America is in great need. A nationally recognized day of prayer is a perfect opportunity to pray for our nation and extend an invitation for others to join you.

This year's theme, Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth. Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

God made a promise to the prophet Habakkuk during some very deep and troubling times in Israel’s history. It was a time marked by darkness and disobedience from the culture and God’s people. The prophet cries out to God for hope and help and God answers in a most unexpected way; to use a wicked, idol-worshipping nation’s army to come and execute His judgment on His people. Habakkuk could not believe what he was hearing as God began to detail the “woes” that would come to pass, but in the middle of the pronouncement of woes, God pauses to make a profound promise that would eventually be seen in the face of Jesus Christ and spread by Christ-followers until Christ returns. God’s promise, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” echoes into the New Testament as the apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:6, “For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” It is this knowledge, the knowledge of Jesus, the knowledge of the gospel, that we pray will spread across the earth. It is through every follower of Jesus living a prayer-care-share lifestyle that His glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. May we see God's glory across the earth at this time in history!

MAY 7, NATIONAL OBSERVANCE OF THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Lord, we exist to give You glory. We exist because of Your glory, and in Your glory, as our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. We give you thanks and praise for every breath and moment You have given to us. We repent of our sin; for the shameful things we have done against You and for our silence when we did not speak up to proclaim Your Name, profess Your Word, or protect and practice Your will. We ask Your forgiveness. We pray that the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will spread across our nation and the entire earth as we seek Your Kingdom and righteousness; as we walk in obedience to You, and in humble unity, love one another. Jesus, the Bible says that You are “the knowledge of the glory of the Lord.” You have taught us to pray, commanded us to love, and commissioned us to share Your gospel of grace. Your glory fills our hearts and families, it overflows into our neighborhoods, workplaces, campuses, churches, in our entertainment and media. We give thanks for our military and ask that Your glory would spread to, and through them as they preserve freedom around the world. We pray for our government, that all of our leaders and laws would be filled with Your glory, that they would magnify Your Holy Word and honor Your will and ways. We pray that Your grace and glory would spread to bring hope to the hopeless, and love where there is hurt and hate. God, use us as we pray your promise, that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” In Jesus' Name, Amen!
