Appearance of Children/Uniform
Appearance of Children/Uniform
Rationale: Children at St Andrew’s Prep are expected to be neat and tidy at all times. They should take pride in their appearance and want to look smart- Look Smart-Work Smart. The Headmaster is the sole arbiter and judge of what ‘neat and tidy’ means in terms of children’s appearance.
Aims • To instil pride • To promote a strong, cohesive school identity that supports high standards and equality among
children • To support effective teaching and learning • To promote the health, safety and well being of pupils • To support positive behaviour, attitudes and discipline • To ensure inclusion of all pupils regardless of gender, race or religion • To protect pupils from social pressure and harassment • To discourage dress and appearance that encourages anti-social behaviour
General guidelines • Hair o Hairstyles should be neat and sensible o All Pre-Prep children with longer hair should have their hair tied back and clipped back
so it doesn't impede vision o Hair should not be dyed
• Clothes o Shirts should be tucked in o Trousers should be worn in a way that covers underpants o Blazers should be worn to /from school
They should always be worn for Chapel, Assembly etc o Tights should not be worn with summer dresses o Skirts and dresses should be of an appropriate length o Pupils may wear grey shorts or trousers, with a checked (not white) shirt, Jumper optional o They may choose to wear the winter skirt or summer dress at specified times during the year o Children are to wear clean black shoes with velcro fastening (no laces) with their uniform and
not trainers. If shoes are lost, broken, etc they should wear simple black plimsolls available from Matron
• Jewellery o Pupils may wear one plain stud earring in each ear o If a pupil wishes to wear a watch, it must be sensibly named o No child is to wear a ring o A chain, with a religious pendant may be worn
• Make-up and nail varnish o Pupils are not to wear make-up or nail varnish
