Precision Engineering
Appreciative and aware of the demands of the precision
engineering contract industry, DP Engineering is committed
to delivering a service that is able to accommodate the most
stringent customer brief on quality, lead time, complexity of
parts and materials, all at a competitive market price.
Our skilled, dedicated workforce utilising up-to-date machinery,
allows the Company to offer an extensive range of engineering
capabilities. Understanding what the customer wants and
managing the manufacturing output to meet the requirement
is vital to the way DP Engineering operates - demonstrated by
a record of customer satisfaction we are very proud of.
The operational and manufacturing processes are all geared
to deliver a comprehensive service, whether it is helping an
individual realise an initial idea, or a business achieving its
production objectives.
“DP Engineering’s advice and commitment to the
complete design process enabled OML to offer the
world’s largest range of high quality marine grade
stainless steel locks. The fact that they have up-to-date
machinery and have invested heavily in their factory
meant that they have been able to manufacture
products for us that are at the highest quality
and specifications.”
Tom Snook, Managing Director, OML Ltd

How it all started
Formedin1952bythelateDavidPaull,apassionatemotorcycle
rider who, frustrated at not being able to obtain parts to rebuild his
motorcycles, decided he would make them himself.
DP Engineering grew out of the need of the market, and the
investment in a skilled workforce and high quality machinery
allowed the business to diversify its manufacturing output, a
philosophy that runs through the heart of the company still.
The original production for the motorcycles became less of a focus
due to the increased demand in other areas requiring precision
engineering. This part of the business was sold and now exists as
The Cornwall Engine Company - thus permitting DP Engineering
to concentrate all effort on developing the precision engineering
aspects of the Company. David Proctor, the present Managing
Director, who was then a good customer of the company, joined
forces with David Paull with the aim to develop the business
into the leading contract precision engineering company that
exists today.
The skilled, dedicated workforce utilising up-to-date machinery, has
allowed the company to offer an extensive range of engineering
capabilities. It has become recognised as one of the truly advanced
engineeringcompaniesintheSouthwest,yetitstillretainsa‘family
feel’ within a highly professional, productive working environment -
exemplified by the very low staff turnover.
DPEngineeringownsitspremiseswithover£2millionofplant,and
has a continual investment policy into state-of-the-art machinery
and training to maintain its position as a major supplier of precision
engineered components to the medical, aerospace, defence,
marine, appliance control, hydraulics, pneumatics, fibre optic, oil
and gas and leisure industries.

“Working with DP Engineering is beneficial, their
team really understand our needs and they achieve
a high level of service in the deliverables”
Tom Snook, Managing Director, OML Ltd
Example of work undertaken
In conjunction with Austin & McLean, DP Engineering have worked on projects
including various components for lifting devices mainly destined for application in
the Navy, using materials such as carbon steels and S355 structural steel. The one
point of contact within DP Engineering has enabled us to work together towards
achieving their goals manufacturing quality components time and time again.
“Over the last twelve months of Austin & McLean dealing with DP Engineering
we have received a first class service and the DP team have worked closely
with ourselves to ensure our requirements are fully realised. Our requirements
have been diverse and demanding and DP Engineering have always managed
to deliver the goods, putting themselves out to react to our ‘rush’ orders and
achieve our deadlines. Our finished product has to go through stringent quality
control procedures by outside agencies and never once has a component
manufactured by DP Engineering failed. We would highly recommend DP
Engineering.”

Operational capabilities
DP Engineering has a continual investment policy helping us remain at the
forefront of the precision engineering contract service industry. To complement
our extensive machine plant we have state-of-the-art CNC (computer
numerically controlled) machinery enabling us to work within very precise
tolerances and with the capability of intricate part manufacture in one
operation. The highly accurate machining, coupled with meticulous quality
control, ensures consistently high standards of output at all times; whether
working in standard materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper
and plastic; or exotic materials that are required in the aerospace and defence
industry, such as Titanium, S80 and S130 stainless steel.
Component production
DP Engineering has become a leader in the contract precision engineering
industry by adopting a flexible, adaptable approach to the demands of the
market place.
We are able to offer a professional engineering service from prototype work
through to batch production in excess of 100,000 units. Our commitment to lean
manufacturing principles allows for fast turn around and versatility in all areas of
the production process we are engaged to deliver. We are able to cost effectively
manufacture in small to large batches, which can be scheduled on call off, made
to order or by means of Kanban.
DP Engineering prides itself in catering for the individual client needs, ensuring
a sound on-going business relationship tailored to requirements.

Operational Standards
“Bassett Defence Services have worked with DP
Engineering for over 20 years; in that time their
on time delivery and quality performance have
been second to none. We have always found the
team at DP Engineering flexible and responsive
to our needs even when urgent requirements
arise. I would highly recommend DP Engineering”

Operational management
The Quality Management System operated by DP Engineering is based on
diligently complying with, and maintaining relevant operations to high standards
through a continual development programme in all areas of activity.
The commitment to quality is based on effective and consistent implementation
of all operational systems to reflect customer and business requirements, the
result of which is continued customer satisfaction.
Defined in the Company ‘Quality Manual’, the aim is to provide ‘correct, defect
free manufactured products, on time and within budget’. Internal training and
communication with all staff of the importance of the production quality is a key
factor to maintaining high quality output. On-going monitoring of performance
criteria helps ensure these aims are adhered to, and through regular review
processes we measure the relevance and effectiveness of our QMS.
Operational standards
The precision engineering industry demands not only high quality product
deliverables but also the knowledge that the manufacturing process,
quality control and operation of the company, meet industry standards and
expectations. DP Engineering meet and comply with all required regulatory
standards and have developed a Quality Management System based on
AS9100 and ISO 9001:2008 requirements. In addition the company is working
towards the Aerospace and Defence SC21 Award for 2009.
Quality control is paramount; the company has a qualified AS Auditor in the
position of Quality Manager in addition to state-of-the-art precision inspection
equipment, which we regard as a crucial part of the engineering process thus
ensuring an exacting quality of output.
Accreditations
What is ISO 9001:2008?
ISO accreditation is an international standard
assuring good quality management practices. It
provides a tried and tested framework for taking a
systematic approach to managing our approach to
the processes involved in manufacturing components. It ensures
that we consistently manufacture components which not only
meet but exceed our customers’ expectations.
What is AS/EN9100?
AS/EN9100 is widely recognised as the preferred
quality management system for the aerospace
industry. In short, it is a model for high quality
assurance in design development, production,
installation and servicing; it provides general good working
ethics and standards which can be applied to all areas
of our business and contracts, including application to the
stringent standards required in the medical sector.
The Aerospace and Defence SC21 Award
We are members of, and work in conjunction with, the Cornwall
Aerospace Defence Initiative (CADI) and the West of England
Aerospace Forum (WEAF), towards this accreditation.
The Aerospace and Defence SC21 Award
What is the Aerospace and Defence SC21 Award?
The 21st Century Supply Chain Scheme is an industrial change
programme developed by the UK Defence and Aerospace
industry, designed to accelerate the competitiveness of the
aerospace and defence industry by raising the performance of
the supply chain, knowledge transfer and transparency of work.
Included in this programme are seven commitments which all
signatories agree to implement:
This recognised route to improved performance will continue
to reduce duplication and reduce costs for all our customers.
