Special and OEM Micrometer Heads
Special and OEM Micrometer HeadsThe Special Design Department at S-T Industries was originally established with the purposeof designing precision micrometer heads for solid and tubular micrometers.
The outstanding accuracy, reliability and economy achieved in these micrometers haveled to the design and manufacture of micrometer heads for applications other than for conventional micrometers.
The micrometer heads shown are a small sampling of the hundreds of specially designedheads. These have been developed and manufactured for installation on machine tools andinspection devices.
S-T Industries is prepared to design and manufacture micrometer heads to meet yourspecial requirements—in any size range and graduations and in a variety of materials.

M2 Touch Screen Controls
M2 Touch Pad DimensionalMeasurement Digital Readout ForOptical Comparators with theWindows® Operating System.
• Designed for Multi-Touch software control: In addition to conventional mouse interface, theexpanded Multi-Touch logic allows for versatile pan and zoom of the active part view with a pinch, swipe, or press.
• Advanced crosshair probe toolbox: For Optical Edge enabled systems, both “simple” and “autoedge” crosshair probes are available. The “auto edge” probe captures points on edgesautomatically. The M2’s industry first EdgeLogic™ system (Optical Edge enabled systems only)enables gesture driven control of start and end measurement commands. Start and finishmeasurements quickly, without the need for direct software interaction.
• Graphics-based “Part View” constructions: Generate popular construction types, likeDistances and Tangent Lines, from within the graphical part view itself.
• Industry-leading support for additional tolerance conventions: Tolerances can be applied inthe standard feature to feature fashion, or by using a more traditional “place tolerancing” system.Engineering drawings may indicate that all features reported to 2 significant digits will get onetolerance value, where all features reported to 3 digits will get another. The M2 software allowsfor the entry and application of universal tolerance values according to these feature resolution groupings.
• Feature Detail Graphics: Individual feature views provide informative drawings displaying pointcloud distributions, as well as nominal deviations, and tolerance results. Scroll through yourmeasured features list from this view for a feature by feature display of Actual, Nominal,Tolerance, Deviation and Data Fit Type information.
• Report Generation: Flexible reporting capability supports a range of application requirements, from simple to complex. Custom report headers, footers, and printout graphics can all be includedas part of easily generated program playback routines, or simply printed, or exported as datafiles, on the fly.
• Support for all current industry standard software methodologies for Stage and Opticscalibration: Simple machine/optic calibration can be achieved using popular machine and opticcorrection methods. (LEC, SLEC, NLEC, Distance Calibration).
• Industry leading Operating System platform: The Windows® operating system representsthe current enterprise solution for personal computer based software operating systems. You gainthe performance and reliability of a globally recognized software solution as part of yourmeasuring machine package.

SEALED IMAGE®
Comparator Charts and ScreensALL CHARTS AND SCREENS FEATURE THE SEALED IMAGE PROCESS
The Sealed-image process was developed to give maximum life to our precision charts andscreens. A thin sheet vinyl plastic is laminated over the artwork, thereby protecting the imagefrom wearing off due to use or cleaning.
The lines on charts are made accurate to their center unless otherwise stated on the chart. Our basic line width is .004" to .005" (.1-.12mm).
Glass screens are used for new or replacement screens for optical comparators. The image iscentered to the OD of the glass to .005". Glass screens are available only for 14", 16", 24" and 30" S-T Industries, Inc./SCHERR-TUMICO optical comparators. Glass screens are recommended when the artwork pattern will be used for all applications.
Plastic overlay charts are recommended when patterns will be changed frequently. Plasticcharts are available in any diameter up to 30" (760mm). The plastic material is dimensionallystable, non-flammable and resistant to oil. To avoid distortion, plastic overlay charts should notbe stored above 140˚F (60˚C).
Cleaning - Clean Sealed-image charts and screens with glass cleaner, soap and water or isopropanol using a soft cotton cloth. Avoid harsh rubbing. Do not use paper towels or coarsecloths and do not use acetone, benzene, lacquer thinner or other strong chemicals, as they willdamage the surface.
To order glass and plastic charts, use this part number format:
74-XXXX- DD MM
Pattern Number Diameter Material(Machine size, Inches) (Glass=25, Plastic=30)
Example: 20X Radius/Grid Glass Screen for 14" Optical Comparator=74-0031-1425
IMPORTANT - When ordering glass replacement screens, please include the model numberand serial number of your optical comparator.
SPECIAL ARTWORK - Custom artwork is available on request. We can combine standard patterns or produce custom artwork scaled from your drawings.
NIST CERTIFICATIONS - Accuracy certifications can be provided at an additional charge. Please request this at the time your order is placed.

Instructions for Reading English Micrometers
Reading to .001"A micrometer is operated by a screw threadhaving 40 threads per inch. One completerevolution of the thimble advances onethread .025" or one line on the barrel scale.
To read a micrometer in thousandths ofand inch, read the visible barrel number witheach additional line representing .025"—then add the reading on the thimble witheach line representing .001".
Illustrated example:.375" + .010" = .385"
Reading to .0001"A micrometer with vernier scale has tendivisions on the barrel which equal ninedivisions on the thimble. Each thimblegraduation equals 1/1,000" and each verniergraduation equals 1/10 of 9/10,000.
To read a micrometer in ten-thousandthsof an inch, read the visible barrel number inthousandths as with an ordinary micrometerwith each additional line representing.025"—then find a line on the vernier scalethat exactly coincides with a thimble line.Add the vernier reading to the barrel’sthousandths, obtaining the actual reading inten-thousandths of an inch.
Illustrated example:.260" + .0005" = .2605"

Instructions for Reading Vernier Calipersand Height Gages
Reading to .01mmThe reading of a metric micrometer with“quick-read” numbers on the barrel sleeve isthe same as reading any other metricmicrometer including a vernier readingmicrometer, hundred line thimble readingmicrometer or a plain .01mm readingmicrometer.
The “quick-read” metric barrels aremarked 25-50mm, 50-75mm, 75-100mm,etc. The last visible number and graduationon the barrel sleeve are used, adding thethimble reading to them.
Illustrated example:44.5mm + .12mm = 44.62mm
Reading to .002mmA metric micrometer with vernier scale hasfive divisions on the sleeve which equal fourdivisions on the thimble. Each thimblegraduation equals 1/50 of .5mm or .01mm;each vernier division is 1/5 of .01mm or.002mm. The difference between a thimbledivision and a vernier division is .002mm.
When the zero lines of the vernier exactlycoincide with thimble lines (Figure 1), thenumber on vernier lines is the differencebetween the vernier line and next thimbleline in .002mm. As the line numbered “4” onvernier coincides with the thimble line, thethimble has moved .004mm.
Using Figure 2, determine millimeters tonearest .01mm as with ordinary metricmicrometer. Then find the line on vernier thatexactly coincides with a thimble line. Theadding of the vernier reading to the .01mmreading results in actual reading to .002 of amillimeter.
Illustrated example:6.13mm + .006mm = 6.136mm
