TYPE OF PREFIXES•We do not have rules to help you remember

which prefixe you should use, although knowing the meaning of the prefixe can help and here are some of them:PREFIX MEANING EXEMPLES

Mis- Wrong or badly Misspelled or misspelt (wrongly spelled)

Sub- Under Subway (a way under the ground)

Pre- Before in time, in fornt of or superior

Prepacked (packed before)

Un- not Unhurt (not hurt)

WHAT IS A SUFFIX?•It is a group of letters that you can add at

the end of the root word and changes it meaning. For example:

comfort + able = comfortablecomfortable

root word suffix

•Adding suffixes to words can change or add to their meaning.

TYPE OF SUFFIXES•There are various suffixes and the most

common are probably –ed and –ing. Here you have some examples:TYPE SUFFIX EXEMPLESVerb -ed Walk + ed =

-ing Say + ing =Noun -ness Happy + ness = happiness

-ment Excite * ment = excitementAdjective -able Accept * able = acceptable

-ful Help * ful = helpfulAdverb -ly Love * ly = lovely

-fully Hope + fully = hopefully
