Preliminary Task

White writing and pictures. White connotes peace

or innocence, although the pictures seem to

represent the opposite.

The gun firing out these two names could

represent that they are the main characters

and are in a sort of battle.

The roughly drawn pictures could be

representing that the characters are

unskilled or lazy.

The yellow patterned background represents old fashioned wallpaper.

This could be showing that the characters are out of date. The creases

in the background could be showing the peaks and lows of life and also

representing depth and that the characters are rebellious.

The ‘Joint’ represents the key concept of the film.

Shows us what the film will be based around.

The cigarette burns down revealing a name, this

could be showing that this character is involved

somehow in this concept.

Background changes to a red pattern which again could represent out of date wallpaper.

This is backed up by the faded parts and the stained areas. You would expect to see this

pattern on a bandana, this could be showing again that the characters are rebellious and

breaking the law because this is a stereotype of someone who is wearing a bandana.

Again the roughly drawn sketches show laziness,

this is backed up by this image of a fast food drinks

cup. Again, showing an element of laziness.

Key concept of ‘James Bond’ films when he shoots and blood pours

down the screen and the camera shakes representing someone dyeing.

‘Casino Royale’ is the only James Bond film that incorporates this with

part of the film. James Bond turns around to shoot someone on the

floor and it leads into the title sequence.

The mostly dark colours represents death, this is

also backed up by the blood on the screen.

The dark tunnel represents the barrel of a

gun, showing that James Bond was under

attack as well because the person could have

shot him.

The dark tunnel with the light at the end could be representing

the idea of the light at the end of the tunnel for the person

who has been shot. It could also mean the opposite because

we always link this with heaven and the idea of peace but for

this person James Bond is waiting in the light at the end of

their tunnel.

Lots of bright colours used to show that the mood is happier,

apart from James Bond whose character is in black. This is

possibly representing him as mysterious.

The King of spades represents the idea of gambling,

these associates with the name of the film because;

we associate a casino with gambling and a deck of

cards.

The two people fighting are in the two colours found in a deck

of cards. This shows us that the film is going to be based

around a card game and gambling. Because the two people are

fighting it shows that it will be a fight between two sides,

possibly good and evil.

The view of the two people from above shows that we are watching over them,

not interfering and that perhaps they are smaller than us or that the fight is

unimportant or small compared to what is to come.

The golden guns could possibly represent

wealth or money, again tying in with the idea

of gambling.

The guns are firing out black clubs and red hearts, again showing the deck of cards and gambling. It is also showing

the battle between the two sides, the black clubs and the red hearts. We associate red hearts with love and in this

case it could represent the good side and the black clubs represents the bad side. There are a lot more black clubs

than red hearts possibly showing that the good side is out numbered, but they are faster and more tactile because,

they are travelling faster and further than the black clubs.

The spider’s webs represent the key concept of the film. The small

video within the spiders webs shows the story behind how there is

a spider man.

The shot is mostly dark with a large black border,

black connotes evil and mysteriousness. This

doesn’t fit in with what we know Spiderman to be

because, we know him as being good.

The colours of the spider are the colours that Spiderman

uses on his suit. This could be showing that he has now

turned into the spider not just gained a spiders abilities.

The spider webs again are showing a video

of what abilities Peter Parker has gained.

This is shown after how he gained the

powers so fits in well.

The transition between shots is a pan which goes horizontally

and vertically. This shows the way in which Spiderman moves.

Page 6: Preliminary task

The names of the main actors in the film are shown next

to their pictures. Again these are shown within the spider

webs.

The main colour blue is one of the main

colours in Spiderman’s suit. The spider webs cutting through his face

possibly show he is evil and is going to die

within the film.

The cracks over his face possibly could be showing that

he has a bad fate ahead of him or that he will face a

hard challenge in defeating his enemy. We know

Spiderman to be strong and with the convention that

the good always wins we can rule out the possibility of

him dyeing.

The blue is more prominent here, this may be

because this is Spiderman and they want us to

know that when we see blue within the film to

think of him.

The men shown walking all in black suits shows them

as people who are well off, possibly with lots of

money.

Seeing lots of men dressed in suits walking

together is associated with gangsters. We now

see and know that these men are involved in

gangs and crime.

The camera is steady and directly facing the characters face.

Because he is the first character to be named we see him as

the leader and main character.

We see the character putting his sun glasses

on, we associate this as well with crime and

gangsters because they stereotypically wear

black sunglasses.

The yellow writing can connote wealth and

happiness, this showing that the men are all happy

with their lives being gangsters and have gained

lots of money from crime.

Page 8: Preliminary task

The group of men are walking away from the character,

possibly showing that they are going somewhere where we

cannot follow, possibly dangerous.

The name of the gang appears at the bottom of the screen showing who they

are once we have known the characters individually we see who they are as a

group. Again the yellow connotes wealth and happiness.

Again the character is putting his sun

glasses on showing the he is a stereotypical

gangster in his black suit with black

sunglasses.

The character’s name is yellow again showing his wealth

and happiness with what he is doing.
