Premier Intermediate Hurling County Semi Final Valley Rovers had a two point victory over near neighbours and old rivals Ballinhassig on Saturday night in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Semi Final to set up a County Final meeting with Newestown on Sunday 11th Oct in Pairc Ui Rinn at 2pm. Valleys got off to a flyer in this game with Richie Butler and Chris O’Leary scoring points in the first 4 minutes but Ballinhassig responded with two points of their own. Gary Farrell and Richie Butler extended the Rovers lead again and Ballinhassig pulled one back on the 17th minute. Enter Chris O’Leary with a point and a minute later he collected a long Eoin O’Reilly delivery before unleashing an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net for the games crucial score. Ballinhassig narrowed the gap before half time with two further points to leave the Half time score Valley Rovers 1-5 to Ballinhassig 0-5. Ballinhassig scored the first two points of the second half before Darragh Looney extended the lead again. Both Teams shared the next six point with Valleys three coming from Jack Walsh and two from Chris O’Leary. With five minutes remaining Valleys were three points clear but Ballinhassig did not wilt and scored the next four points to go a point up in extra time and appeared to have the momentum at a vital stage. However Valleys had other ideas and two late Chris O’Leary points either side of a John Cottrell beauty put Valleys into the County Final and a chance to return to Senior ranks for the first time since 1989 on a full time score of Valley Rovers 1-14 to Ballinhassig 0-15. This was a fantastic performance from Valleys who were only behind for one of the 67mins played to record their first win in 58 years over Ballinhassig. Team

U16 Football Championship

On Monday last in Cloughduv our U16 footballers played

Carbery Rangers in what turned out to be a step too far

in this years championship. The Rosscarbery lads were

totally dominant in the first half leading ten points to

one at the break. A lone free from Charlie Lyons our only

score. The Rovers rallied well in the second half to

outscore their opponents by five points to two but the

result was never in doubt. Three more frees from Charlie

and a point each from play from Adam Healy & Kieran

Rice left the final score Valley Rovers 0.06 Carbery

Junior Hurling League

Our Junior Hurlers played Tracton in Brinny on Sun

morning and a mixed team of experience & youth

earned both points with a 1.20 to 2.10 win. Valleys

trailed by a single point at the break having played well

but ten wides and the conceding of a very soft goal in

the first minute didn't help. The second half was much

better and Valleys quickly took over to win by seven

points. Thanks to all players especially the ten minors

without whom we would not have fielded a team. Team:

Cathal Dart O'Flynn,

Ciaran Murphy, Tim Cummins,

Michael Crowley, Aidan Walsh, Gary Deane 0.01,

Stephen Manning 0.03, Sean O'Regan 0.03,2f,

Camogie

Fixtures: Minor Ch'ship v Eire Og Saturday Sept 26th in Brinny at 1pm

U12 County Final Valley Rovers U12b Camogie played their County Final last Saturday in Ballinlough GAA grounds, where they played Eire Og. This was always going to be a great & tough game all in one, as both sides have played each other several times since U10 leagues and friendly games. The girls had one final training on Thursday evening, where they practised some point taking, and obstacle goal scoring. This was to prove worthy for the goal keeper as she worked hard to keep all scores out. Wisdom thoughts shared by coaches Helena Buglar, Leo Flynn, U14s coaches Sheila Muckian, & Eamon Reardon, helped the girls enjoy the lead up to the game, and prepare for their toughest task in the league. All girls were in great spirit before the match. Subsequent to the whistle blowing the game commenced with a very fast flow to the game. No side was giving the ball away easy. Everything you would expect in any final, was evident on the pitch. Eire Og scored first with a goal that punished the Valleys for ten minutes or so. A free was awarded to Valleys, where they converted a point.

Valleys were to find the net once before the break along with another point. There were a few missed scoring chances on goal by the Valleys. At the break the score line was, Eire Og 1-1, Valley Rovers 1-2. The second half was no different with equal share of the ball in most areas of the pitch. Every player fought tooth & nail to keep them in the game. Valleys scored another point, but Eire Og were to score four more points, with two coming from frees. The game ended Eire Og 1-5, Valley Rovers 1-3. Despite the fact that this fine bunch of players were on the loosing side, it was a very respectable score line. The club and its coaches are very proud of these fine young ambassadors who represented us so well throughout the league. As Chairperson also I would like on behalf of the club to reiterate how proud and delighted we are to have such talent. There is fantastic talent coming up behind them, and these girls as they move on, well all I can say is the future is really bright for the Valley Rovers Camogie club. At the presentation the County Juvenile chairperson, Mary O Sullivan paid homage to both teams, and she was amazed at the intensity and skill that both teams played right to the end. This was echoed by the Referee Collette O Mahony (St. Finbarr’s). We are so proud of them. Players include: Siobhan Lordan, Rhian Dawkins, Molly Lynch, Kate Lynch, Clare Flynn, Grace Geary, Aine Ryan, , Niamh Crowley, Laoise Collins, Fiona Horgan, Aoife Barry, Aisling Fennelly, Hannah Morrissey, Orla O Sullivan, Rebecca Lordan, Tara Gilli, Jodi O Mahony. Aisling O Donovon.
