NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee - Regional Final Maclean Public School – Wednesday 11 September 2013 Maclean Public School hosted the Regional Final of the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee on Wednesday 11 September 2013. Regional Final convenor Michael Rosnell said “The NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun an educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. The spelling bee is open to all NSW public school students in from Year 3-6. They compete in two sections: junior and senior. Students from primary schools across our region, from Evans River to Yamba to Nymboida and in-between, attended the regional final at Maclean Public School." A review of some of the words in the list is enough to test even the best speller. Try these junior words for size: turbulence, armadillo, dissertation and buccaneer. Some of the senior word list included: simultaneous, troubadour, chihuahua and quarantine. Enough to test even a seasoned competitor on the TV show ‘Its Academic’. This year, for the first time, students could access spelling activities supplied on an App by major sponsor Samsung. “All participating schools held their own spelling bee before selecting students to attend the regional final. It’s a huge achievement to make it to this level of competition.” added Mr. Rosnell. This year the regional winner of the junior section of the NSW Premiers Spelling Bee was Noah Fahey of Grafton Public School. The senior winner was Alexis Karstens from Gulmarrad Public School.

NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee - Regional Final

Maclean Public School – Wednesday 11 September 2013

Maclean Public School hosted the Regional Final of the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee on Wednesday 11 September 2013.

Students from primary schools across our region, from Evans River to Yamba to Nymboida and in-between, attended the regional final at Maclean Public School."

A review of some of the words in the list is enough to test even the best speller.

Each winner received a copy of the Macquarie Dictionary and electronic spelling tools from Franklin Electronic Publishers. The winners now progress to the State Final to be held at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, Sydney on Wednesday 6 November 2013. We wish them the best of luck.

“I would like to congratulate all students who competed in our regional final, they did a great job. A big thank you must also go to our judges Mrs Edwards and Mr. Dominey, and to all the parents and who supported the day” concluded Mr. Rosnell.
