This home sits on a lot equal in size and shape as the other homes in the subdivision. It is of the same construction type and the overall appearance of the home is similar to others in the area.Vehicles are parked in the driveway rather than garaged. Two entry points see the most use: 1) front door and 2) garage interior door after first using the overhead garage door.
Overhead garage door has a keypad mounted on door frame at SE side of door.

The north side of this home faces the south side of the house next door across a 10-15 ft span. The house next door has a stockade fence that runs from the back of the house to the NW property corner. Past the property line is a retention area that has a sparsely wooded center. This is a primary area of concern. Recommendation is to install 2 flood light on a motion sensor. One light trained on the NW corner of property and the other into the ally way between the houses. Run lights from dark to bed time and set to motion sensors for overnight deterrence.

The rear of the home faces West and outside the property line there is a retention area that is wide open and dry. There are few obstructions for persons to hide behind upon approach to the property. Two exceptions however are: 1) fence corner on the NW corner of the property, and 2) at the SW corner of the stockade fence belonging to the house to the South of this home. Recommendation is to install another 2 flood light on motion sensor. One light trained on the SW corner of property and the other into the ally way between the houses. Run lights from dark to bed time and set to motion sensors for overnight deterrence.

The south side of this home faces the north side of the house next door across a 10-15 ft span. The house next door has a stockade fence that runs from the back of the house to the front. There is a an exterior door into the garage on this side it is dead bolted and opens out. Utilities are on this side. Recommendation is to install bolted shields over communication cables to protect monitor center notification capabilities.

West Side (Rear): Install another 2 bulb motion sensor light. One light trained on the SW corner of property and the other into the ally way between the houses. Run lights from dark to bed time and set to motion sensors for overnight deterrence.
South Side: Recommendation is to install bolted shields over communication cables to protect monitor center notification capabilities.
Exterior AnalysisRecommendationsDoors and Windows
Doors and windows are of good quality and modern design and less than 10 years old. The windows have dual interior locks. Doors have standard grade locksets, and some doors do not have dead bolts. Several exterior doors have glass inserts, including the French doors in the family room.
Recommend that a locksmith be consulted and locksets upgraded per his inspection. Window locks may be inspected and augmented as well. Please refer to the next section, “Interior Analysis” for other door and window recommendations.

This is a single story ranch home with a center living area and split bedrooms floor-plan. There is no alarm system and no pre-wiring for an alarm system exists. The attic does not extend across the entire home. There are 5 exterior doors and a garage interior door. There is a garage door opener, on a metal garage door. There are the normal amount of windows for a home this size. In the family room at the back of the house there are two exterior doors with glass and a large window set. The kitchen area connects to the family room. In the front of the house is the formal dining room and entry way. Master bedroom is located on the North end of the home, and the secondary bedrooms are on the South.

While many people envision a security system as being comprised of contacts on every door and window this is not always the most efficient use of resources. A balance of sensors and contacts , some of which will do double duty is an effective strategy for many homeowners.
Recommended plan of action. Install alarms system utilizing a reputable service provider and detection devices that monitor “sectors” of the home as well as “primary” doors and windows. Motion and glass break detectors, door and window contacts , and smoke and heat detectors are part of a monitored alarm system that is in constant contact with the monitoring center utilizing the processing unit located in the home. The alarm system should include local audible burglar and fire alarms and a medical emergency panic feature with wireless remotes.

Door and window contacts should be planned for all exterior doors. Windows contact placement should be determined based on each windows location and relative risk. Add a monitored smoke detector to the system as well. The use of motion sensors in the primary living area multiplies the opportunity to detect an intruder. At this time there are no animals in the house, but the client advises moderate traffic throughout this area overnight is the norm. Choose a system with wireless remote. Add interior glass break detectors to the family room and lanai outside access area. Be sure the entire family is trained in the systems use.

Obtain or compile a well stocked home first aid kit, and smaller kits for your vehicles. Keep a reasonable stock of prescription drugs on hand. Maintain a 911 ONLY cellular phone on charge at your designated home rally point.
Have a monitored smoke detector in your system. Check and replace batteries in non monitored smoke alarms 2 times a year.
Recognizing LEO limitations, add a personal defense plan for home and on the street.
Always dial 911 first. Get help on the way, then calmly deal with the event.
Emergency Action PlanGeneral Emergency Plan:Family moves independently to the designated family rally point.
Recommended rally point is the Master Bedroom. This location should have a 911 ONLY cellular phone, stationary and on charge. Two firearms will be securely stored at this location. See section titled “Recommended Weapons”. This location has two escape options. One out the front, on the east side of the house through the master bedroom window. Another option is at the north side of the bath, through the master bath window.

Alarm systems normally include an inside alarm siren. Consider the addition of an outside siren. One that has a built in warning light gains even more attention.
If the alarm is tripped by any sensor on the system, or manually, the appropriate message is sent to the monitoring center via your home phone. The monitoring center follows a protocol and calls the home and other contacts. Safe words, passwords and panic words for the family are determined while setting up the account.

Even if your alarm has sounded and the monitoring center receives contact from your home, you must remember to call 911 as well. During the call clearly state the situation in simple terms. Sum it up quickly and ask if the dispatcher understood you. If you are in fear for your life or the life of another YOU MUST REMEMBER TO SAY… I am in fear for my life, or some other form of the same message. This will convey the gravity of the matter to the dispatcher.Speak clearly and calmly as you relay the who, what, where, and when’s
to the dispatcher, and remember that simple is better for everyone. Leave out any personal back stories, they generally don’t help at this stage, and if not careful you may say something in the heat of the moment that does not reflect well upon actions you may be forced to take. If armed be sure to relay that fact to the dispatcher early in the call.

NOTE: Do not sacrifice your immediate security when calling for help. If it’s obvious that you should be fighting, get to your weapons at the rally point, and then call 911 for help.
Secure location 1: Inside master closet on north wall, Gun Vault with Glock 19, 9mm with spare magazine and hand held light. Near North escape window in bath area.
Secure location 2: Under the master bed in locked long gun hard case. Mossberg 500 series shotgun with light installed. Near East escape window in front of master bedroom.

Mossberg “500 series” with youth or short stock. Add a light mount and 2 point sling. Primary home security long gun.
Glock 19, 9mm compact semi auto. Second magazine. Basic outside the waistband concealment holster, and spare magazine carrier. Primary concealed carry and home defense handgun
KelTec P32 or P3AT. One spare magazine . In .32 or .380 the KelTec is recommended as the backup or light concealed carry gun.

Firearms familiarization and discussions as well as live fire to aid in selection of your own personal security armament. Self loading pistols, revolvers, shotguns carbines/rifles. Review, discuss and then evaluate different carry gear and ancillary equipment. Review and discuss ammunition considerations. Review and discussions re: edged weapons, and impact weapons. Objective: to isolate which weapons platforms and equipment will be needed in the future. Discussion and lists of locations to purchase items discussed above.

Security assessment visit to your home. Evaluate risks. Isolate weaknesses in current facilities and methods of operations. Discuss weapons storage, placement, and access plans in the event of emergencies. A complete report with regard to suggested hardening of physical security and plans of action will follow and be reviewed next session.

Home defense techniques. Mock up of client’s home defense rally point is assembled on the range and various scenarios are trained and drilled with complete verbalization, movement and live fire. Street scenarios are set up and role played in live fire. A training and practice regimen is discussed and developed for the client.
