Whether you are tramping, skiing or just sightseeing, appropriate dress ensures a good time. Sleeping gear to bring: • Linen (sheets, pillow slip) • Sleeping bag/extra blankets • Towels • Toiletries • All essential outdoor gear (ski, tramping, swimming, etc)

What’s at Taylor Memorial Lodge?

Taylor Memorial Lodge provides: •Firewood for fireplace, newspaper, firelighters and matches (please bring additional newspaper if you have it). •Electric heaters are throughout (please do not bring your own heater as it is against health and safety standards and insurances and can cause overloading) •Tea towels •Rubbish bags

•Detergent, cloths, brushes •Cleaning chemicals, mops, brooms, vacuum •Hand sanitiser •Toilet paper •Basic first aid kit •DVD player /play station 3 /TV Screen /projector •WiFi (pay as you go option) •Library with children and adult books/magazines •Pool table

•Table tennis •Foostable •Board games If someone has forgotten/mucked up their sleeping bag or sheets/pillow case, please ask us. We have some spares. If you need anything else, just pop over to our house and ask (white house behind the lodge).

Due to the structure of The Lines Company electricity

supply in Ruapehu, some sockets in the lodge will be

Payment, Fees, Damages • A 10% deposit of your total invoice secures your booking • Staying at Taylor Memorial Lodge means you agree to our ‘Terms of Use’ • Prior arrangement cleaning fee can be applied to your bill. Please ask • We take a fully refundable bond of $200.00 which will be reimbursed at your

departure on the conditions that: - There is no damage beyond wear and tear. Extra cost will be applied for

damage - The lodge is left clean and tidy. (rubbish remaining / uncleaned lodge will

incur a cost of $150.00)

Housekeeping • Do not litter outside • Only burn wood, cardboard and newspaper on the fire place. • Keep children clear of fire. No children to play with the fireplace • Do not hang anything flammable near the fire • Do not move the bunk beds • Do not allow children to jump on bunk beds • It is the supervisors responsibility to ensure children do not graffiti • Children must be supervised at all times

• Books and games need to be cared for. Please put back as you found them Before you leave ( see our checklist): • Take rubbish with you • Empty food scraps in compost bin or in paddock to feed the animals • Clean kitchen, empty fridges, microwave, oven, wash dishes, mop floors, wipe

Risk Assessment - Taylor Memorial Lodge

Risk Risk Management Road Vehicles on road All children to be supervised by an adult and educated on road

safety. Although quiet road, vehicles do use the road regularly

Railway corridor Trains All children to be supervised by an adult and educated on rail

safety. Stand well away from track (5metres). No walking along

tracks. Electric trains can be quiet and hard to hear on windy

days.

Bush Getting lost or injured Please tell someone where you are planning to go on your

excursion. All children are to be supervised by an adult and

educated on what to do if lost or injured. Children should be

warned about vastness of bush and dangers. Be appropriately

prepared and dressed. Do not go beyond your level of

experience and fitness levels.

Livestock Sheep and goats Although friendly the animals are very tame. No adults or children

are to enter paddock as animals may jump or butt.

Changeable and harsh

environment

Ruapehu is a mountainous climate. Adults and children need to

bring clothing, bedding and footwear suitable for changeable

and extreme weather. Be aware of hypothermia symptoms. Also

be aware of heat and sun. Ensure weather is suitable for outdoor

activities. Wear appropriate attire. Ensure experienced person is

leading groups. Always check weather conditions. Take plenty of

water and food.

Fireplace Burns All children to be supervised at by an adult in the lodge by the

fire. NO children should be allowed to put wood on the fire or

stoke the fire. No materials other than paper and wood should be

but on the fire. Do not leave the fireplace door open.

Bunk Beds Falling Recommendations are that no child under 9 years of age should

sleep on the top bunk. Adults need to ensure children are

capable of getting up and down on bunks safely and are

appropriately supervised. Bunk beds must not be moved and

children must not fool around on bunk beds to avoid accidents

and damage.

Fire/Earthquake Every person staying at the lodge needs to be aware of fire exits

and meeting point in the case of building evacuation. Bags and

other objects should not obstruct doorways or exit points.

Please monitor children at all times. Gas ovens have a flame and

extra care is needed around the ovens.

Alcohol

Consumptions

Varied Please consume alcohol responsibly and look after each other. If

someone is drinking too much, be aware of dangers and assist

them to stop drinking. Ensure there are no hazards around that

may cause accidents due to people consuming alcohol. Be

aware of social issues that may coincide with the consumption of

alcohol. Ask for help and recognise if a situation is out of control.

All residents at Taylor Memorial Lodge need to take extra care due to the wild environment and foreign type surroundings. If you think anything dangerous, notify lodge managers immediately. Please do not take risks. If you are unsure about something, ask an experienced person or call Dean and Shona (lodge managers).

Wraps • Oil for frying • Onions (1 onion per 4 people) • Tortillas (allow two per person) • Mince (150g per person) • Tomato paste • Tomatoes (1 tomato per 2 people) • Avocados (1 avocado per 4 people) • Lettuce (1 lettuce per six people) • Sauces (chilli, tomato, yoghurt, mustard etc ) • Salt and pepper

Step 1 Brown onion and then add mince then drain excess oil. Add seasoning (salt, pepper, tomato paste, and stock). Allow to simmer until brown. Prepare fillings: sliced tomatoes, lettuce, avocados

Step 3 Heat tortillas in microwave as per packet instructions .

To serve Allow everyone to make their own wraps buy laying out all the ingredients (mince, tomato, lettuce, avocado and wraps.

Quick and easy meal ideas…have more time to relax

Noodles • Noodles (udon or hokkien noodles) • Veges (carrot, broccoli, onion, capsicum ,

chives , garlic etc) • Chicken, beef, eggs (150g per person) • Sauces (peanut, soy, sweet and sour) • Salt and pepper to taste

Step 1 Brown meat in frying pan ( you can use several types of meats/egg in different pans. Boil veges until lightly cooked and add to meat

Step 2 Boil noodles in large pot. Then drain and serve. Layout noodles, meat and sauces to enable people to create their own desired dish.

Homemade burgers • Burger buns (2 per person) • Meat patties/vege patties (buy or make your own)

Chocolate Mousse Ingredients

•Packets of Chocolate Mousse (plus ingredients to

make it) enough for servings for each person

•Whipped cream for topping

•Chocolate flakes or berries for topping

•Plastic cups

Directions:

Make the chocolate mousse according to package

instructions. Spoon or pipe into plastic cups and

refrigerate until set.

Top with whipped cream, chocolate flakes or berries

Banana Split

Ingredients •Banana for each person

•Ice cream (mix of flavours)

•Sauces (chocolate/caramel/raspberry)

•Toppings (berries, nuts, hundreds and

thousands etc)

•Cream

Instructions Split bananas and place in bowl

Add ice cream

Add toppings as desired (see picture)

Yoghurt Dessert

Ingredients •Yoghurt (to taste either flavoured or Greek)

•Berries, fruit, nuts, seeds

Method Add granola into pots/glasses
