Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (then Tunku Abdul Rahman College ) opened its door to students on 24 February 1969 by establishing its pioneer school, the School of Pre-University Studies (now Centre for Pre-University Studies). Starting off with only the Higher School Certificate programme (HSC), the Centre now offers four pre-university programmes: Foundation in Science, Foundation in Arts, Cambridge GCE A Level (Science) and Cambridge GCE A Level (Arts).

A Level examinations are structured as Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Two Level (A2) which may be taken separately or together. With this structure, students can plan their learning and are given more opportunities to do well in the examinations. The General Paper is an Advanced Subsidiary Level subject. Student can choose three or four subjects at Advanced Level.

Students without SPM Additional Mathematics/O Level Mathematics-Additional are strongly discouraged from taking Mathematics (A Level Arts)Subject to minimum number of students.

Designed to provide students with a strong academic grounding through well-crafted syllabi with a comprehensive coverage of relevant subjects.

Prepares post-secondary students and eases their transition into the relevant undergraduate programmes.

Produces students who will possess the requisite knowledge, essential skills and attributes which are highly demanded by universities.

Upon successful completion, students will then pursue specific academic disciplines in various TAR UC degree programmes in Accountancy, Finance & Business; Applied Sciences & Computing; Engineering & Built Environment; Social Science, Arts & Humanities.

TAR UC’s Foundation in Science is an academically rigorous programme with a very comprehensive syllabus. I have really learned a lot from the foundation programme. CPUS lecturers are simply awesome as their lessons are very clear and they never hesitate to assist us.

TAR UC’s Foundation in Science programme is really academically challenging and I feel that it has a higher standard than equivalent programmes elsewhere. I would not have been able to cope if not for the fantastic lecturers at CPUS who are very dedicated and helpful, and ever willing to guide and assist us.

After completing the Foundation in Arts programme, I decided to pursue my dream as an accountant in Australia. I am glad that TAR UC’s Foundation programme is recognised for admission into Australian universities. The Foundation programme has prepared me well for undergraduate studies by teaching me the importance of knowledge and also time management.
