THE RINGING OF THE CHIMES
*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively)
Leader: The God of hope, the God of reconciliation, the God of past promises, the
God who makes things new, has called us here this morning,
People: So that we may join in one voice, and glorify God, so that we may feel
hope grow again.
Leader: God summons us to welcome one another, just as Christ has welcomed us
all,
People: So that we may join in one voice, and glorify God, so that we may be
alive in hope.
Leader: Let us sing praises to God, and rejoice with all the people,
People: So that we may join in one voice, and glorify God, so that we may be
filled with hope.
*HYMN #687 “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past” Attr. William Croft, 1708
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER (unison) (from the Belhar Confession 1986)
We believe that
Christ’s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the
community of believers who have been reconciled with God and with one
another;
That unity is, therefore, both a gift and an obligation for the church of
Jesus Christ; that through the working of God’s spirit it is a binding
force, yet simultaneously a reality which must be earnestly pursued and
sought: one which people of God must continually be built up to attain;
That this unity must become visible so that the world may believe that
separation, enmity and hatred between people and groups is sin which
Christ has already conquered, and accordingly that anything which
threatens this unity may have no place in the church and must be
resisted. Amen
SILENT PRAYER
WORDS OF AFFIRMATION (responsively) (from the Confession of 1967)
Leader: The new life finds its direction in the life of Jesus, his deeds and words, his
struggles against temptation, his compassion, his anger, and his willingness to
suffer death.
People: Life in Christ is eternal. The resurrection of Jesus is God’s sign that
God will consummate the work of creation and reconciliation beyond death
and bring to fulfillment the new life begun in Christ. Thanks be to God.
All: Amen
CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE #581 Gloria Patri
CALL FOR OFFERING
OFFERTORY “Manna” (Holy Spirit Light Divine) by Richard Purvis

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison)
Creator God, you sent Christ to show us the way to live life. Call us away from
the ways of the world that call for quick fixes, for short attention spans, and
instead call us into your vision of hope and eternity. We lift our eyes up to you,
O Lord, to see beyond ourselves and to know that it is only thru following you
that we are truly free. Amen.
