OBJECTIVE

To design and fabricate a Phillipino Gasifier that can be useful for a nuclear family.

Page 3: Presentation

Introduction

* Gasifier: It is a device that produces

gases from the organic materials by the chemical action called Pyrolysis.

* Pyrolysis: It is a chemical action that takes

place in the absence of oxygen, thus breaking the chemical components of the organic materials into hydrogen and carbon- monoxide.

HISTORY OF GASIFICATION:

* In 1669 Thomas Shirley Conducted Crude Experiments with CarbonatedHydrogen.* In 1788 Robert Gardner Obtained the First Patent with Regard toGasification.* In 1861 Real Breakthrough in Technology with introduction of Siemens Gasifier. ThisGasifier is Considered to be the First Successful Unit.

Design and Process of working of Gasifier

• Design of Gasifier depends upon type of fuel used and whether Gasifier is portable or stationary.

• Gasifiers are classified according to how the air blast is introduced in the fuel column.

• Phillipino Gasifier is originally developed model in Philippines and it is an updraft Gasifier.

• This Gasifier has 3 main units:

- A combustion unit from where the heat is supplied.

- A Pyrolysis unit where the chemical action takes place.

- Hood, which is an outlet for gas and here oxygen mixes with hydrogen thus combustion can be achieved.

USES OF GASIFIER:

Gasifier can be used as cooking stove and for other domestic purposes.

Gasifier can be used as fuel source for internal combustion engines.

Gasifier can be used in industries as a combustion unit.

Work remaining

Fabrication of Phillipino Gasifier. Testing with different types of fuel,

efficiency of Gasifier and fabrication of a new model with modification. (To be done in next semester)

Problems Encountered:

In dimensioning. In choosing the appropriate model to

work out with.

Conclusion

In country like Nepal the technology of gasification can be very fruitful.

Gasifier can be fabricated in different models and sizes according to need and demand.

Use of Gasifier can help in protection of forest, also helps to encounter the upcoming energy crisis.

Use of Gasifier can help to maintain healthy domestic environment.
