The reason I chose this topic for

presentation is because my interest is in

cars & since we are studying Automotive

Engineering, this presentation could come

in quite handy for us.

Fordism, named after Henry Ford, is a

modern economic and social system based

on industrial mass production of automobiles

Fordism as defined in Oxford dictionary:

³the use in manufacturing industry of

the methods pioneered by Henry Ford,

typified by large-scale mechanized mass

 production´

Ford introduced the Model T, which was

simple and light, yet sturdy enough to drive

on the country's primitive roads. The mass

production of this automobile lowered itsunit price, making it affordable for the

average consumer.

As the World War I centered in Europe broke out in 1914, all the

World¶s major powers were involved in it. Thus, technologicaladvancements in commercial vehicles took a back-seat. Since, most

of the brains and resources at that time was diverted towards the

development of military equipments, consequently combat vehicles

technology greatly benefitted in this era.

The British took the lead in Tank development with the deployment

of Mark 1 tanks, inAugust 1916 in the Battle of Somme and

immediately it¶s success was noted among theAllies and the Central

Powers.

The French were not far behind, as they also introduced their main

battle tank named Renault FT, in May 1918. which greatly turned the

tide in favor of theAllies. In response to the development of Allied Mark 1 & Renault FT

tanks, Germany speed-up it¶s development of Tanks and introduced

theA7V to the war, nicknamed ³The Moving Fortress´, which was a

massive disappointment due to it¶s primitive design and heavy and

large size.

was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945. It involved most of the world's nations²including all of the great powers²

and theAxis. Since the whole of the world was embroiled in this

war.Again development of passenger vehicles had taken a

backseat and the focus was on developing military vehicles. In

this war great technological milestones were achieved due tocompetition among the allied and the axis countries.

Until now, fast cars were available with Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati and

Aston Martin leading the way. But none of these companies were ready

to risk their reputations gained for reliable performance, by going that

extra mile in the performance sector and go for a bold and extravagantstyling. But this was about change with the arrival of a new contender in

the supercar market

Lamborghini COUNTACHFerrari ,Porsche &Aston Martin were now playing catch-up to Lamborghini in the

Hypercar market. Ferrari redeemed itself by introducing the Ferrari F40 which is now

considered by many as the greatest supercar of all time. Porsche launched Porsche 959

As the oil prices grow higher and the emission policies get stricter, car companies are diverting their resources towards the development of small

and fuel-efficient gasoline engine cars. Also hybrid, electric and hydrogen
