Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
My Dear Parishioners,
I have some very unfortunate news to share… Over the course of this school year, I have been in touch with Mother Assumpta in regards to some health issues Sister Maria Rose has been ex-
periencing over the course of the last year. As you were all informed, Sis-ter was treated at a Mayo Clinic before Christmas. Since then, Sister is thankfully doing much better, but, not knowing the overall outcome, Moth-er has decided it best not to assign her anew to the role of principal for next year. And, though wishing it could be otherwise, Mother has regretfully notified me that she is unable to replace her at this time with another Sister and, thus, a lay principal will need to be hired for the future.
While it will be a big change to not have a Sister as principal, I support Mother’s decision and believe that it is the right one for the optimum re-covery and healing of Sister Maria Rose. She is looking out for her spiritu-al daughter. The demands and stress of the principal position are great and not the most conducive to the restoration of one’s health. Thankfully, Mother has assured me that her decision will not affect the presence of the Sisters in our school, as she is still committed to sending them here in teaching positions.
After learning of Mother’s decision and consulting with the Diocesan Cath-olic School’s Department, they have advised me that the hiring process for a new principal should begin in the next few weeks. My intention is to hire someone who would be as perfect a fit as possible for our beautifully unique and distinct Catholic school, as well as someone who sees how blessed we are to have religious Sisters on our faculty and, indeed, who understands that, in many ways, what the Sisters offer is the most special gift we have to give to our students.
Sr. Maria Rose is the only Sister who has been with us since the Sisters’ arrival and has done a tremendous amount for our school, especially the last four years as principal. We would not be where we are without her, and it will truly be a loss to our community to see her leave. I ask you to please keep her and our school, as well as the hiring process, in your pray-ers. After talking through Mother’s decision with Sr. Maria Rose, it is our mutual intention that, while a Sister would not be in administration, the Sis-ters would continue to oversee the Catholic identity of our school in the ways that they do now.
Our Lady has guided our church and school safely and securely these last seven years, and I have complete confidence that she will do so, and is do-ing so, now. Please join me in consecrating entirely to her all that I have spoken of in this bulletin.
In Jesus, through Mary, Fr. Jeremy Leatherby

The idea of the Church as a pilgrim church is not new. It goes back at least as far as Saint Augustine and the fifth century. We
do not live for the here and now, we live for the future. We are not content with what is, but struggle to achieve what should be and what will be. As pilgrims on this earth we look to the future. The earth is not heaven, it is the path to heaven.
The Transfiguration of the Lord also looks to the future, it points ahead to the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise. Whoever is occu-pied with earthly things, is an “enemy of the cross of Christ.” But whoever follows Christ, keeps their eyes on the light, and occupies their mind with things of Heaven, is a citizen of Heaven and awaits the return of Christ who has prepared our home for us. The promise of Heaven is the fulfillment of the promise God made to Abraham.
In the glorified body of Christ we see the presence of the Holy Trinity and the culmination of all of salva-tion history. The new covenant be-tween God and man, Heaven and Earth, is embodied in Christ.
In Heaven we will not only be reu-nited with our glorified bodies but the world of the Creator will be transformed into the world of the Redeemer. In Jesus Christ, as mem-bers of His mystical body, we will be fully integrated into the cove-nant God has made between Him and creation.

What are the Scrutinies?
These Rites are celebrated to help deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (RCIA 141). The Rites of Scrutiny are meant to uncover, and then heal, all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the elects’ hearts and to bring out through repentance all that is upright, strong, and good. Three Scrutinies are celebrated in the parish community on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent, after the homily. The Scripture read-ings for the Scrutinies ordinarily come from Cycle A of the Lec-tionary: the Gospel story of the Samaritan woman at the well for the 1st Scrutiny, the Gospel story of the healing of the man born blind for the 2nd Scrutiny, and the Gospel story of the raising of Lazarus for the 3rd Scrutiny. The celebrations of the Scrutinies also remind the whole parish community of the need to reflect on their own sins and the need for God’s help.

Journey Through Scripture is the St. Paul Center’s dynamic Bible study
program designed to help ordinary Catholics grow in their knowledge of the
Scriptures while deepening their understanding of the riches of our faith. Distinctively Catholic, Journey Through
Scripture reads the Bible from the heart of the Church, engaging both the Old and New
Testaments and how they work together. It’s grounded in history, yet actively engages topics faced by today’s Catholic. More than
just an ordinary Bible study, it’s biblical catechesis. This is just one of the studies
