The Open Handset Alliance (OHA) is a
consortium/association of 84 firms to develop open
standards for mobile devices.
Member firms include the following:
Android is an operating system

mobile devices such as smart phones and
tablet computers, developed by Google in conjunction with the Open Handset
Alliance.
Initially it was developed by Android Inc, whom Google financially backed and later Google purchased the company Android Inc. in 2005.

• Speculation about Google's intention to enter the mobile communications market continued to build through December 2006
• At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device platform, i.e. Android Operating System.
• Google marketed the platform to handset makers on the promise of providing a flexible, upgradable system.
Android Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California in October 2003 by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White
In 2010, Google launched its Nexus series of devices - a line smart phones and tablets running the Android operating
system.
The series has since been updated with newer devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus phone and Nexus 7 tablet, made by
Samsung and Asus respectively.
