Audience questionnaire evaluation – Digipak and Magazine Advertisement

I feel the audience questionnaire was an important task for our research and planning as we can gather ideas from our target audience of what they think is best and what will work best. I feel it is the simplest way to know what your target audience want to see due to you will not sell any products if it does not attract your target audience.I created the questionnaire on Google drive asking simple questions that would help us for our project. I then posted this questionnaire onto social media sites due to our target audience being teens, and stereotypical teens use social media sites frequently.

DEMOGRAPHICSWhat is your gender?The most common answer to this question was female. I feel as though this will have a large impact on the rest of my answers as they will be more suited towards the female audience due to the colours for example, that the audience may choose for the digipak and magazine advertisement. However, we were feeling to go for both female and male audiences.

How old are you?The majority of people that answered this question were 16 – 25, which is what we expected due to posting the questionnaire on social media networking sites and these are the typical ages expected for these sites. This was also our aim for our target audience therefore, we have many ideas already that we can use to attract this age.

DEMOGRAPHICSWhat is your social class?The most common answer to this question was unemployed/student. Which was another expectation as we posted the questionnaire on social media sites and stereotypically, more students use it that working adults. I feel as though this will affect our further answers, as they will prefer more informal to formal decisions which suits their social class

What is your ethnicity?The most common answer to this question was White. This may affect future answers as they may include things that they have culturally learned which will make our answers more bias towards the Western Europe population.

Choose 3 colours to fit with the pop genre

The most common answers for this question was white, red and pink. However, these colours do not go together, especially the red and pink as they clash. Therefore, we will use mainly the white as it goes with any of the other colours mentioned but will not use both pink and red we may just use one of these colours or go ahead with the next most common answers which was colours such as yellow and blue. These responses were conclusive as the majority of people that answered these questions were female and they stereotypically prefer pinks and reds to males. If we are sticking with our original target audience of both males and females we will not be able to closely follow these colour responses as they are more suited to just the female population.

Would you prefer to seen plain or ‘fancy’ writing?

The most common answer to this question was Sans Serif (informal) writing. Which is what I expected as they majority of people that answered the questionnaire were of an unemployed/student social class, therefore, they are not going to enjoy the site of things that are too formal. Therefore, these results are conclusive. The following most common response was Script (handwritten) writing, which we could use to catch the attention of the target audience will vital information and to also make the digipak and magazine advertisement seem more personal to the artist which could make the audience feel more connected to the artist. We will follow the responses to this question as we feel they best suit our music genre but also we feel this is the best way to engage our target audience as this is what they stated as to what they want to see with our digipak and magazine advertisement.

What sort of image shots would you like to see on the digipak?

Full body shot was the most common answer to this question. I personally feel as though I expected this due to the majority of the people who answered the questionnaire being female, and females stereotypically are more into fashion than males. Therefore, a full body image will allow the audience to see the outfits the artist is wearing which could then be an inspiration for them and their fashion decisions. This will portray the artist as a role model for the target audience. These will affect our decisions with the images taken within our digipak and magazine advertisements as we want to please the target audience. If there are a few images used within our digipak we will use medium shot angles as that was the second most common answer due to if the audience are constantly seeing full body images they will get bored so a variety of different shot angles should keep the audience entertained.

Who are your top three artists?The most common answers to this question were Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. Again, these results are conclusive as females stereotypically enjoy the music of Rihanna, Beyonce and Taylor Swift, due to a lot of their songs involving context about relationships and love. These responses are stereotypically more for the female audience therefore, if we still decide to keep the male and female audience we will have to add in more male artists to make sure we attract both genders. Rihanna’s digipak’s for example are very colourful such as her ‘loud’ digipak which is bright red, matching the colour of her hair and includes things such as flowers which are stereotypically very feminine and beautiful which could portray the meanings behind her songs. Furthermore, Bruno Mars’ digipak is very unisex due to it uses the colour yellow which represents fun and is associated with happiness. If we still decide to go down the unisex route for our music video, we feel yellow, is the colour to use.

What is the main focal point on a CD cover?

The most common answers for this question were both track list and main image. Therefore, my group and I have came to the decision that the main image will be in the centre of the digipak and also there will be the main track list in bold on the back of the digipak but also may feature some of the main singles on the front of the digipak.. These were the initial ideas we had for our digipak as we felt as though this is what would attract our target audience.

What is the main focal point on a magazine advertisement?The most common answer to this question was the main image. Which is what we expected as being teenagers ourselves this was the answer we would have chosen, due to the younger generation stereotypically prefer visual things to written. Therefore, we will follow this most common answer and make sure that the main image is in the centre and is the largest and possibly most colourful thing on the page to make sure it stands out and grabs the audiences attention. This was the idea we originally had for our magazine advertisement as this is also what we firstly look at before reading into anything else that the magazine advert has to offer.

We are featuring a solo female artist, what should they be wearing on the digipak and magazine advert?The most common answer to this question of what the artist should wear was a party dress such as one with sequins for example. This was the kind of thing that we were aiming for as the pop genre is very fun and up-tempo, therefore, we felt a party dress was the best way to deliver this message. The second most common answer was high waisted jeans and a crop top, therefore, we could dress the artist in this for some of the shoots to show the casual side to the artist which could make the audience feel more connected to her. We will follow these answers as we feel they suit the pop genre but also is the way to attract our target audience.
