Camera - Nikon D3100 – Digital SLR Settings – Manual ApertureThis piece of equipment was very beneficial in the production of my images for my magazine. By half pressing the shutter you can focus your shot to a better quality picture. This is very useful as the shot needs to be at the highest quality for my magazine. The camera also had the option of zooming in and out which was very helpful for sampling different styles of images such as close ups and whole body images.

Hemisphere 300- Strobe lights This equipment was unusual to me when I first used it, therefore I wasn’t too sure on

how to achieve the best lighting for my images. However by moving the strobe itself closer and further away from the model in the image it can create a different feeling to the image and creates a feel behind the image. I decided to have the lighting rather close to Aaron and Callum as it created a shadow across there face which emphasized the dark side to my genre which was an excellent felling. It matched there arrogant and fearful facial expressions. By positioning the light correctly it really focused on the two models faces and created what I believe to be and excellent image.

iMac- Throughout the production of my magazine the iMac was the most used piece of

equipment. It allowed me to access all the software I used to able me to create my magazine. It was effective with the planning and final end product of my work.

SD Card The SD Card was a great piece of equipment to have for transferring photos quickly

and efficiently from the camera to my iMac.

Backdrop The backdrop provides a plain white background behind the models in the images. It

creates an excellent contrast from the model to the background, this doesn’t just create a better image it also makes it easier to edit the photo on photo shop. The backdrop works very well with the other equipment such as the hemisphere strobe light to help get the best quality picture possible for my magazine.

Adobe Photoshop Adobe Photoshop was the main and most frequently used software within this process

of the production of my magazine. It was very efficient and beneficial to use in creating the most successful magazine I could of produced. The software allowed me to edit and manipulate photos. Its also where the masthead, subheadings and the overall layout of the magazine was planned and created. Layers were a large factor, for example being to have Callum and Aarons head over lap with the masthead to create a professional look to the front cover.

Overall I learnt a lot from Photoshop through the process and this allowed me to improve and make necessary adjustments to my magazine to create the final piece. I used tools that allowed me to change the color of my background as well as the contrasts was able to cut images out from there background. For example I used the ‘magic wand’ tool to cut Callum and Aaron out from there original background so they would contrast better with the background I had already created for my magazine.

Final software Fire-Fox Firefox was used for my research the browser allowed me to access information and

images I wouldn't’t be able to get without the browser. Firefox was also used to access wordpress.com which is where my blog is located. The browser was used for research tasks and for my own personal research in elements such as forms and conventions of magazines, this helped me to create a professional and successful magazine.

OSX This is the operation system that stores all the data on iMacs. It allows me to open previous worked on software, without this I Wouldn’t be able to save work and re open files to continue work.
