Codes and conventions of an Eastenders trailer

Here The lighting is dark and this sets enigma for the audience. The actress in this picture (Shirley) is looking up mysteriously this shows that she thinks there’s going to be some trouble ahead. The atmosphere is tense. This is similar to the way the (zulaikha) the actress in my trailer is tense throughout.

Here u can see that part of the actress’s face is darkened and the other side if her face is lighter. This also creates enigma for the audience, as well as this the actress played here could suggest that she may play a bad character in the soap. Iv also done this technique for my magazine cover where for the boy I have lightened part of his face, but not to show he is a bad character but to show he is innocent.

Here before Ronnie and Roxy are introduced we can see the bewilderment of these two lads who are stunned to see these two new girls on the square, medium shots are used to show there face expressions. Dark and light lighting is used to crate enigma and excitement.

Medium shots are used to show the expressions on these actors faces. Similarly I have used these shots in my trailer to show expressions of the main girl’s faces.

Eastenders is a soap mainly aimed at women and when two new characters are introduced especially women, other characters may be portrayed as “bitchy” and “spiteful” . We can see that these two female characters are delighted to see two new women on the square and the lighting is also portrayed on their faces in another form, it is not in the villainous way it is portrayed in the innocent way.

Props are used to show exhilaration and high spirits and this indicates that something good is going to happen.

A close up shot is used to Introduce one of the new characters. The expression on her face shows us that this person is a strong dominant character and she may bring good storylines into the soap. The lighting also expresses a lot of emotions and it also shows her facial features.

The cowboy hat suggests that this new character is a wild one and the outfit/costume suggests that she is a raunchy character as well as a player. From the sisters reflecting back at her outfit would probably make the audience decide she is the youngest out of the two sisters.

A medium shot is used to show how close the sisters are and the bond it suggests they have together. The lighting is also used effectively, to me it looks like a disco scene where the lights are flashing is one direction and then another. The font at the bottom suggests enigma as the audience is trying to figure out what havoc they could create and the excitement it will bring to the soap.
