PROBLEM STATEMENT:

As the world starts moving faster, every one want to catch up withthe latest technologies. Indeed, investing in faster, more reliableand less human-dependent technologies, is a great opportunity towin the race and beat the competition by any company.

One of the key factors of successful business operation is well-

thought staff communication system. Good managers know thateach minute of work time spent in vain means profit loss. That iswhy building fast and convenient personnel communicationenvironment is so important, these days.

Common means of communication, such as verbal instructions, e-mail messaging, is far from perfection and cost implications in

terms of time and money are high when it comes to deliveringshort messages to multiple individuals. Internet-basedcommunication solutions are good but they rely on third-partyservices like an active internet connection among others, thismakes the entire system in question unreliable. A chat applicationworking in local area network (LAN) is thought to be a better

solution. Therefore on that note, and as a means of solving themissing link a LAN based chat application design project was

Objectives:

Main objective: To design and implement a Local Area Network (LAN) based chat

application. To make communication among users across LANs easy without

internet

To provide the cheaper communication on LAN as alternativebesides using internet .

To make the knowledge sharing between user easier and faster.

Specific objectives: Design a server (router) application.

Design a client application. Design a graphical user interface (GUI). Test and evaluate the system.

JUSTIFICATION

The LAN based CHAT APPLICATION runs inside a company or privateLAN.It does require an active Internet connectionA central server is not required.Only people who are inside the LAN will have access to the system.

Security is guaranteed because Communication between the usersdoes not leave the LAN, hence the system is spam free.LAN chat application offers basic functionality for sending privatemessages, file transfer, chat rooms and graphical smileys

SCOPE

Analayze the problem facing the instant messages faced in the

world today Design the applicaton flow Implement the design as given by the design team

Test and Troubleshoot the system thorough well to issue no bugs inthe system

Make An installer from the developed applicaton.

METHODOLOGY

Different project tasks were assigned to each group member onbasis of their interest in particular portion of the entire system.

3.0 System Analysis and Design The sole responsibility of the system anaysis was given to a group

of members to anayize the system and then aweekly joint meeting was held to assess the views brought by themembers incharge of the task. The out come of the analyserequired members to get acquitted with Csharp and MicrosoftVisual Studio Intergrated development Environment which they alldid then a gropu of where selected on a programming basis to

spear head the coding of the applications.

From the analysis of the system another group of the memberswere responsible for the design of the system. This team wasworking in close relations with the analysis team to make sure thethe Design confirms conforms with the analysis and anything to be

left out.

The primary goal of this project is to give an idea about LAN Chat. Thisproject has given us an in depth information about LAN and itsapplications in day today life. If Local Area Network lives up to itspotential, it will revolutionize the way people interact with informationtechnology. This project offers several benefits due to the use of simple

and easy to understand tools like VISUAL STUDIO. This project isdeveloped in C# ,which is easy to read, learn, scales well, performswell for being interpreted, and is incredibly well-documented.
