Abstract
Our project is towards monitoring and assessment of changes in the watersheds in Dhrangdhara taluka of Surendranagar district using Remote sensing and GIS technology.
The Indian Remote sensing satellite (IRS), Linear Image Self Scanning Sensor(LISS iii) data of 4th Oct 2006 and 5th Jan 2014 are used and analysed.
Classified outputs of two periods were compared to derive information, on changes that occurred over a period of 8 years in the water bodies, Vegetation ,Fallow land, Settlement and Wasteland .
The monitoring practices revealed an increase in area under cultivation and area under settlement and decrease in area of wasteland, fallow land and water bodies.
Objectives
Monitoring impact of watershed development programmes on cropping pattern in Dhrangdhara Taluka using geo informatics technology.
Land use classification using multi temporal data of IRS LISS III.
Change detection in agricultural area using supervised classification of LISSIII data.
Watershed
A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place.
The area that drains into a single river is the watershed for that river.
Characteristics of watershed
All characteristics affect the disposal of water

Methodology
Arcgis Erdas imagine Prepared basemaps using GIS data. Composed map layout proceeding
north- arrow, scale, legend, text and border and exported it to jpg format.
ERDAS Imagine: Classified the image using supervised and unsupervised methods for the classification here we used supervised classification by using AOI extraction we have extracted 10-15 AOI in each class and analysed the images.

Interpretation
Vegetation has increased 6.7% good sign.
Settlement area increased 16.03% is good sign for economically.
Waterbody has Decreased 30% might lead to scarcity of water for irrigating the land.
Wasteland has decreased 4% is actually good sign. Which means the land has been converted to usable form.
But Decreasing Water body 30% and follow land 23% which is an alarming warning signal for us where we have to concentrate.
