Social Networks (Generalized and specialized ones like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn,

etc.) provide a large amount of data

Provided data contain implicit information on attitude and sentiment of users with

reference to products, services, companies, people, etc..

Starting from Data, Sentiment Analysis aims at evaluating the data generated by

users of communities in order to infer trends, opinions, moods, points of view.

Social Networks and related media are becoming increasingly important also in Public

Administration

They can represent an ideal mean to setup a dialogue between institutions and citizens to improve

public services

In e-Government, the analysis of data produced by citizens may lead to quality and efficiency

improvement of public services, and make the decisions of the institutions more transparent and

accountable

MyOpenGov is a co-founded(*) project aimed to develop a social collaboration platform

able to:

engage citizens to express their needs and ideas;

integrate legacy systems of Italian Public Administrations;

let citizens to co-create through mashup personalized public services, by means of a citizen centric

approach;

* Cofunded by Campania regional government (Italy), O.O. 2.1 and 2.2. of POR Campania FESR 2007/2013

MyOpenGov portal, named SocialGov, promotes citizens participation in the co-definition and

implementation of new cool ideas by the means of an Idea Management System able to:

suggest or report common interest topics, to Municipalities, for the development of the territory;

co-define, through social and collaboration features, new ideas;

evaluate and select the best ideas;

monitor the status of ideas, according to an open service co-creation and innovation approach.

MyOpenGov leverages Sentiment Analysis to achieve these objectives

The proposed Sentiment Analysis system leverages a BigData infrastructure.

Data collection from MyOpenGov Portal and Social Networks (FLUME);

Data ingestion on a distributed scalable filesystem (HDFS);

Data classification through the evaluation of sentiment implicitly expressed by data (Hive)

Results presentation by using a Business Analytics platform (Pentaho)

Automated extraction, storage and classification process (Oozie)

Tools for sensitivity analysis

To achieve this goal the solution will be enriched with tools to capture data from information channels

(press agencies, news sites of newspapers, etc) in order to correlate the trend of sentiment with the

spread of news.

Weka
