welcomeGood evening, everyone! Welcome to our 2020 “Under the Virtual Big Top” Charity Ball.
While I am no Ring Master, 2020 has definitely felt like trying to manage a 3-ring circus! As the President of this year’s Junior Board at CHNK, I never could have imagined we would not be gathering in person for a fun-filled, entertaining, formal gala at the beautiful Music Hall in Cincinnati. However, due to the pandemic we realized our number one priority needed to be keeping everyone safe and healthy versus enjoying a gourmet dinner and dancing the night away with more than 400 people in a gorgeous ballroom. So here we are, joining you via the world-wide web! The Junior Board of CHNK has been planning fundraising galas since 1935. So having to go “virtual” is a historical first for CHNK in 85 years! But even though we can’t gather in person, our mission hasn’t changed. It is still our goal to raise critically needed funds that become treatment services for children and families who are grappling with mental health disorders, addiction, or other significant trauma. So, even though you are likely viewing this from the comfort of your own home, I hope tonight you will thoughtfully consider donating to CHNK. Every dollar donated will have a life-changing impact on the youth, families, and community that CHNK serves. Whether it’s through outpatient services, residential treatment, or telehealth services, CHNK builds bridges to better futures for individuals in crisis. Enjoy your time with us this evening! We have an amazing silent auction that offers something for everyone, great music, fun themed cocktail recipes to share, and some heartfelt testimonies. On behalf of the entire Junior Board, I thank you for your time and consideration in helping us reach our fundraising goals. So sit back, relax, and grab your favorite beverage or snack as you take part in our first ever “Under the Virtual Big Top” Charity Ball!

My Fellow Virtual Charity Ball Attendees: 2020 has been a year of extraordinary events causing extraordinary change. For some, change is simply exhausting. For others, change is like a spark of creativity that leverages new ways of doing things and new ways of being in the world. Tonight’s virtual Charity Ball would have been beyond the comprehension of the CHNK Junior Board who inaugurated the very first iteration of a Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky Charity Ball back in 1935. And yet, here we are creatively using the technological tools at our disposal to continue the good work that has been underway for over a century – the care of vulnerable children, adolescents, young adults, and families in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our founder Amos Shinkle, prior to establishing CHNK in 1882, made his living on the Ohio River with riverboat transportation. At one point in the mid-1800s, Amos realized that a new bridge would be necessary to modernize the transportation arena in this region and thus he began his plan to erect the first suspension bridge across the river in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati region. While his focus on efficient transportation remained the same, he knew there was a need for change in the method of that efficiency. While the format for our beloved annual Charity Ball is new and exciting this year, the mission is absolutely the same: to provide excellent care for youth and families in crisis or experiencing trauma. Last year, CHNK’s robust continuum of care impacted nearly 4,000 individuals. Approximately 87% of CHNK’s reimbursements are associated with Medicaid payor sources. Your presence at this virtual event means EVERYONE coming to CHNK Behavioral Health receives EXCELLENT care, because that’s just how we do things under this Big Tent we call CHNK. I offer a profound word of gratitude to the members of the 2020 Junior Board at CHNK for their willingness to lean into the unique situation presented to them by this year’s Charity Ball. Their dedication to CHNK and the vulnerable youth in our care is evident in every element of the event, even in a virtual format. Well done, Junior Board. Well done. And now… on with the show!

Itzel was diagnosed with a hearing processing disorder at an early age. She needed hearing aids and a personal FM system, something insurance would not fully cover.
When Itzel’s mom, Alma, reached out to Kosair Charities for help, the Kosair Kids® Financial Assistance Program covered the cost of her equipment. Soon after, Itzel’s
school performance improved drastically.
You can help more kids like Itzel reach their potential and overcome their obstacles.
“I know Itzel is destined to do great things and now she can.”
