Now you own the WHOLE
iceberg … and
things are fundamentally
different.
In your role as a senior leader,
what have you found to be
“fundamentally different” from
the positions you previously
held?

Multifunctional in nature, strategic
leadership involves leading and
managing through others, leading
the entire enterprise rather than a
functional sub-unit, and coping
with the change that continues to
increase within an uncertain, often
ambiguous, environment.

3. Cultivate values-based strategic leaders who exemplify the
highest standards of ethics and morale character.
4. Broaden the perspectives and frame of references of the

The notion of VUCA was introduced by the U.S. Army War College to describe the
more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous multilateral world which
resulted from the end of the Cold War. The common usage of the term VUCA
began in the 1990s and derives from military vocabulary.

The purpose of the Baldrige framework is simply to help your
organization—no matter its size, sector, or industry— answer three
questions: Is your organization doing as well as it could? How do you know?
What and how should your organization improve or change?
By challenging yourself with the questions that make up the Criteria for
Performance Excellence, you explore how you are accomplishing what
is important to your organization. The questions (divided into six
interrelated process categories and a results category) represent seven
critical aspects of managing and performing as an organization.
