Director’s Notes
Cinderella—glass slippers—a beautiful gown—and a Prince—set in a world where magic happens and anything is possible. Look beyond the surface and we see a young woman who has suffered horrible loss (both mom and dad) and is left in the care of a tyrannical step monster that treats her like a second class citizen. Add to the mix two stepsisters who have learned cruelty at their mother’s knee—one relishes her dominant role while the other just wants a sister she can love and respect. Cinderella’s only friend, a crazy lady who is treated just as poorly as she—two misfits on the outskirts of society—shunned by everyone but each other. They treat each other with kindness—kindness that is short supply in Prince Topher’s kingdom. With a little love, common sense, and an abundant supply of perseverance, Cinderella proves nothing is impossible—these traits land her a prince and a chance to live happily ever after. In this day and age when our children use social media and YouTube to laugh at and view acts of cruelty on a moment to moment basis, maybe we should look for the Cinderella that lives within all of us. Enjoy the show!
