Born in Modena, Italy where he now lives, thePavarotti phenomenon in the United States began in 1965with several performances of Lucia di Lamrnerrnoor inMiami. His Metropolitan Opera debut took place in overnberof 1968 in La Boheme. With the advent of his recital career,his talent, artistry, voice and sheer charisma melded intothe unique performer who today thrills thousands, andthanks to television and film, millions of friends, fans, col-leagues and critics quite literally all over the world. LucianoPavarotti also concentrates much of his energies on aidingyoung singers. In addition to his master classes, he hasorganized an on-going international vocal competitionwith the Opera Company of Philadelphia, appearing inperformance with the winner.

The world cheers this great artist at his every appear-ance in opera, in recital, with orchestra, on records, televi-sion and motion pictures. His impact has broadened thehorizons of classical music and brought untold numbers ofnew fans to the art. His unique personality and individualqualities have reached and touched countless audiencesthroughout the world on stage and in concert, and hisimage on the television screen has become synonomouswith art to millions who have seen him in his award-winning shows.
