    INTRODUCTION

    Hello!

And thank you for downloading the i2c Presets Pack.

In this package, you get 6 presets packed nicely into a compressed file:

    1. 3Dfy2. Lag3. Spinner4. Face Camera5. Scan6. Interfere

    Cool stuff!

In case you havent realized, this is the documentation / help for the presets. Should you face any problems, or

want to get more info on what the presets do, this is the first place youd want to check. The other would be thei2c Forum, accessible via the site.

If you have any questions/problems that are not resolved in this document, please send me an email at

mailthevoid [at] gmail [dot] com, or let me know via the Forum accessible via ideastocreations.blogspot.com!

Please remember to check back regularly on i2c for updates to individual presets and this document.

Thanks again for downloading the i2c Presets Pack!

    A FEW WORDS

The i2c Presets Pack is created under a Creative Commons BY SA; Give attribution to who gave you the presets,

and should you tweak and share, share it under the same license.

This is a free product, and therefore should be treated as such. Do not expect full technical support, and dont be a

douche and sell it to someone else!

I cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your system, hardware or software, by the presets. They

are confirmed to work just fine on most versions of AE, 64- and 32-bit, and are confirmed to be virus-free before

being uploaded. This does not mean that there isnt the chance of things going wrong. Simply put, remember to

save often when using the presets, especially incrementally.

Finally, you are using them at your own risk, and I appreciate that!

    INSTALLING

    WINDOWS (64- AND 32-BIT)

Extract the .rar and copy the _i2c_ folder to the following location:

    THE PRESETS

Here is the thorough description of all the presets, what they do, and how to control them!

    They are as follows:

3Dfy This offsets the position, scale, rotation and opacity of the layers it is applied to. Best examplewould be in order to create 3D-looking text, or for motion graphics.

Lag Lag delays the animation of sets of layers in reference to another layers transform properties. Onlyreference layer needs to be animated, the rest will follow suite with a time delay that you can set. Though

this may sound similar to 3Dfy, it actually isnt.

Face Camera Forces a 3D layer to always face the Active Camera by tweaking its orientation. Spinner A customizable spinning pre-loader. Scan A highly customizable linear and radial scan effect. Interfere An RGB-split and distort effect with various settings and expansion capabilities.

The six presets will be described in full in the following chapters. If you are viewing the .pdf version, you may use

the bookmarks to navigate to the specific section you would like to visit. It is not required that you read through

every single line, though it is good to at least go through the Setting Up section of each preset to understand

how to get it working properly.

The presets are built using expressions and built-in effects that ship with AE. They were created as solutions to

problems faced in various real projects I worked on. I am giving these out hoping that they will not only help you

achieve the effects they produced easily, but also to add more techniques and styles to your workflows and open

up new doors, especially for those who cannot afford 3rd

    -party software.

In the following chapters are breakdowns of the controls, how to use them, and Q&A for known problems and

solutions as well as a few tips.

It is highly recommended that you take some time to test out and learn the functions of the presets in a new,

empty comp with some test subjects such as text, images and shape layers or masked solids. This should make

working with them in the future much easier.

    3DFY

3Dfy is a 3D offset tool that allows the user to offset layers in position, scale, rotation and opacity.

3Dfy was initially created to resolve the process of creating 3D-text, which is achieved by offsetting a series of

copies of text in the Z-axis by a few pixels from one another. 3Dfy later evolved, adding extra controls.

3Dfy utilizes a Null object and multiple layers to work. For this example, well use text.

    SETTING IT UP

    1. Create a new Null object and name it 3Dfy (case-sensitive).2. Create a new Camera and name it preview3. In the Effects & Presets panel, search 3Dfy4. Apply 3Dfy_null to the Null object.5. Apply 3Dfy_layer to the layer to be affected.6. Switch on the 3D switches in the timeline to make both the Null and the layer 3D objects.7. 3Dfy comes with some general settings applied. Selected the layer to be affected and press Ctrl+D

multiple times to make various copies.

    8. Notice that the text is being offset by 5 pixels in the Z-axis.That is the most basic use of 3Dfy.

    CONTROLS

First Layer Index Here, insert the index of the first layer that is being affected (index is the number ofthe layer counted from the top). Default is 3, assuming you have a null and camera above it.

Position Amount of offset in pixels of each layer from the along the Z-axis. Default 5. Rotation The rotation amount of each layer from the next about the Z-axis. Default 0. Scale Scale of each layer from the next. Default 0. Opacity Opacity decay of each layer from the next. For a smooth fade, set this value to be equal to the

total number of layers affected by 3Dfy.

3Dfy can produce some interesting results when used correctly. Note also that you may keyframe the above

    properties.

Its important to remember that now the X and Y positions of the 3Dfyd layers are now tied to that of the Nu ll

object. This means that you cannot move the layers directly, only by using the Null. This is a safety measure to

ensure that none of the duplicates are accidentally moved and destroy the order.

    DEMOS

Theres a demo video on the i2c Presets Pack page. Check it out. Heres some shots of 3Dfy at work:

3Dfy applied to TXT layer with various colors. Position 5.

    FAQ

3Dfy does not work. The layers are not being offset.

-Ensure that the null is named 3Dfy exactly with no spaces and with a capital D.

How do I move the layer around? They seem to be locked.

The 3D layers become tied to the Null. In order to move them around, use the Null. If you would like to rotate the

group as a whole, parent them to the null and you may continue using the Null to rotate and move, as well as scale

    (now that theyre parented).

    Any tips?

Use 3Dfy only within precompositions with collapse transformation switched on. There is a tutorial forthis on i2c. This not only helps to keep things neat, but also allows you to have more than one applied in a

    single comp.

    Try keyframing the controls.

    LAG

Lag delays the animation time of given layers by a preset amount of time. Lag allows for fun flow animations and

animating a large number of layers easily when used in multiple instances.

Lag is based on 3Dfy and was used to create a trail for a specific animated solid (similar to the one in the Demo

    section).

In my use, Lag is controlled by a Null, however any type of layer can be used as Lags reference.

    SETTING UP

    1. Create a Null object and call it Lag.2. In the Effects and Presets panel, search lag3. Apply Lag_null to the null object.4. Apply Lag_layer to the layer to be affected.5. In the Lag_layer, set the Controlling Layer to the null object that has the Lag_null applied to it.6. In the lag_null, set the First Layer Index to the appropriate value.7. Apply keyframes to the Nulls position/scale/opacity/rotation parameters then tick the appropriate ones

    in the Nulls effect controls.

    8. Duplicate the lag_layer with Ctrl+D multiple times.9. RAM Preview and watch the awesomeness.

Lag works great with shape layer, simple animated precomps and text layers.

    CONTROLS

First Layer Index Is the index of the first layer that the null is affecting, for accuracy of the offsetting. Insome cases, you may find it useful to tweak this value from the actual first layer index.

Time Lag Is the time lag in seconds between two layers animation. Increasing time lag means theres alonger time before the next layer moves, however the animation of each layer will still take the same

amount of time. This only changes the time between layers.

Custom LagChecking this allows you to set your own values of lag for the layers in the This Layers Lagis control in the layer.

Rotation Toggle rotation lag. Scale Toggle scale lag. Position Toggle position lag. Opacity Toggle opacity lag. Relative Scale When on, the Scale values will only be relative to the original scale rather than absolute.

This allows you to manually offset scale values for different layers or maintain previously set values.

Relative Rotation When on, the rotation values will only be relative to the original rotation rather thanabsolute. This allows you to manually offset rotations for different layers or maintain previously set

    values.

Relative Opacity When on, the opacity values will only be relative to the original opacity rather thanabsolute. This allows you to manually offset opacity values for different layers or maintain previously set

    values.

Toggling rotation, scale, position and opacity will not toggle lag, but will toggle whether it will copy the animation

    or not.

    DEMO

Lag works on animations. Its best to check out the video demonstrations at the i2c Presets Pack page.

Lag used on the pre-composition to the right. Keyframes set to position with 3 keyframes (left, bottom-right, up)

    and rotation.

    USING LAG_3D_LAYER

You may have noticed that there is a preset in the Lag folder called Lag_3D_layer.

This is a tweaked version that is to be used on 3D layers, adding X and Y rotation controls. Lag_3D_layer should be

applied to layers that are already set to be 3D, as well as the Null object. This is to avoid any errors.

    USING LAG_ALT_LAYER

You may have noticed that there is a preset in the Lag folder called Lag_alt_layer.

This is an alternate version of the Lag_layer. It leaves the Transform properties untouched and instead uses the

Transform effect in the Effects panel. This alternate offers a bit more control but in some special cases will cause

    problems.

Lag_alt_layer allows you to offset positions, rotations or scale values for individual layers in the ordinary transform

    controls of the layer.

Lag_alt_layer does not support rotation in X or Y. See lag_3D_layer above.

    FAQ

When I apply the effect, the layer disappears.

Ensure that the First Layer Index is set to the correct value.

I want to apply Lag to a large number of layers, but dont want to have to go one by one to apply the controlling

Layer. How can I fix this?

Select all your layers and in the Effects & Presets panel double-click on the Lag_layer. Before clicking anywhere

else, select the controlling layer in the Effects panel. This will apply it to all layers automatically.

The lag is not working at all!

Double check that the layers Controlling Layer is set to the layer/Null with lag_null applied to it.

How do I change the spacing between the copies?

Theres two ways. The first is to change the spacing between the keyframes. The other is to change the value of

    Time Lag.

Whenever I apply Lag, all my layers appear to reset!

Check that the Relative controls are checked to get back their original values. Position cannot be set to

    relativeyet

Why is This Layers Lag saying 999?

This is a sign that there is a problem with the selected control layer. Double-check that it is set to the correct layerand that that layer has LAG_null applied to it.

The layers disappear when I tick Opacity!

In AE, all Nulls start with opacity of 0%. Setting opacity up to 100% will fix this.

    Any tips?

Apply all required effects and so on to the Lag_layer before duplicating. Making copies is the last step. Do all this in a precomp if possible. The effect also works with 3D layer, with the controlling layer moving in 3D space.

    FACE CAMERA

Face Camera is a basic effect that forces 3D objects to always face the Active Camera. This is useful for replicating

the Sprite effect, and also to produce 3D glow. It is based on the 3D glow tutorial on i2c.

Face Camera was originally created for simulating volumetric 3D glow. It features the ability to tell if a camera is

parented to a Null and compensates. The Amount control was later added for animation purposes.

Face Camera works with multiple and parented cameras.

    SETTING UP

Simply apply the preset to a 3D object.

    CONTROLS

    Face Camera

This checkbox allows you to enable or disable the turning effect. Amount Amount interpolates between the users set value and the Face Camera effect. Clamped to a

range of 0-100 (thus the red digits). This was applied to allow the user some extra control especially in

    animation.

    DEMOS

Demo videos can be found on the Preset Packs download page.

    FAQ

The effect isnt facing the camera correctly.

Please report this to me via email, with details of how the camera is placed and whether its parented, and what

the parent is doing. I will look into it. (contact info at the end of this document)

Face Camera faces the Null the Camera is parented to rather than the camera.

This occurs when the Camera is offset from the position of the Null (not viewing the Null directly). This problem

    has not been resolved yet.

    Any tips?

Animate the Amount control to make an object suddenly face and track an animated camera.

    SPINNER

Spinner is a customizable spinning pre-loader. It is based on the Create a Spinning Pre-loader tutorial.

Spinner was created from a concept for a holographic display as a pre-loader as the system initiated. I later

tweaked it with extra control on color.

    SETTING UP

Spinner is the simplest to set up. Simply create a new solid and apply the Spinner preset to it.

    CONTROLS

Color Points Use this control to set up color points using the point controls. This is what the ColorScheme effect will use to map its colors.

Color Scheme Map colors to the color wheel to the spinner via the Color Points control. Toggle thefx switch on and off to see what it does in relation to Color Points.

Speed Set the rotations per second of the spinner. Flip Flip the rotation and direction of the spinner so it spins clockwise. Trailing EdgeUse Transition Completion to set the length of the spinner, and feather for the decay. Inner Edge Use Transition Completion to move the spinners inner edge in and out. Theres also the

feather control. Tweaking the Wipe Angle produces some interesting effects.

Outer Edge - Use Transition Completion to move the spinners outer edge in and out. Theres also thefeather control. Tweaking the Wipe Angle produces some interesting effects.

*CurlerNo usable controls. This effect curls the spinner. *Spinner Only for troubleshooting. Glow Works like the standard glow effect.

Spinnerwith Color Scheme Output Cycle set to Golden 1 preset.

Color Scheme set to Caribbean, Wipe Angles offset slightly.

    FAQ

The Spinner is not spinning around the centre. It has an awkward movement.

This is because the spinner was created in a comp of a different size than that you are using. To resolve this, head

into the Spinner section and right-click and reset the Anchor Point and Position.

If this occurs in a comp you regularly use, recommend re-saving the preset by selecting all the effects and going

Animation > Save Animation Preset and overwrite or name Spinner 1024x576 if that is the case.

    SCAN

Scan is a set of highly customizable scan presets that run across the screen. It consists of Radial Scan and Linear

    Scan.

    LINEAR SCAN

Linear scan produces a fading line that runs across the solid, like a scanner.

Linear was initially used for Holographic 1 for the facial recognition scanner. I decided to save it and have used it in

    a few cases.

    SETTING UP

Simply apply the preset to a solid.

    CONTROLS

Scan Progress The progress of the scan across the screen. Is not a particular value and is better setvisually. Scrub the value down until the scan is off the screen, keyframe, then move it until its off the

screen on the other side, then keyframe. Set up all other controls before this one!

Loop Keyframes When checked, this control will loop the above animation of the scan continuouslyforever.

Scan Style Set the color here. Scan Width The width of the scanner. Adjusting width will affect the Scan Progress keys and you may

    have to adjust them.

Scan Angle Set the direction of the scan. Forward EdgeControls for the forward edge. Only Feather is useful here. Back EdgeControls for the back edge. Only Feather is useful here. Glow Works like the standard glow. Draft Mode For quicker rendering and workflow, Draft Mode halves the feathering on Back and

Forward edge and switches off the glow for faster render times during previewing on slower computers.

Remember to switch this off for the final render. Do not add keyframes while in this mode.

    FAQ

Render times are far too long!

High feather values take longer to render. Switch on Draft Mode. If this doesnt work, then manually switch off

    the Glow effect.

The glow appears awkward when I change the Scan Style color!

Head into the glow controls and change the Glow Colors control from Original Colors to Colors A>B and

select your own colors in the Color A and Color B sections.

    RADIAL SCAN

Radial Scan is a scan effect like linear but in a circle, like a radar.

Radial Scan is not only useful for creating radar screens, but can also be used to create some complex HUD

elements when used in many instances, as seen in Quickie 01, on Ideas to Creations.

Unlike Linear, Radial animates automatically. However, it does have a switch for this to allow for manual

    animation.

    SETTING UP

Apply the Radial Scan preset to a solid.

    CONTROLS

    Properties

Controls for the element. This includes Edge Radii, Feather and the Invert Circle effect. Thecolor control does not work. Color is changed at Fill below.

Center The center of spin of the scan. It is better to offset the entire layer rather than the actual scaneffect.

Sides Feather Feather control for the sides of the scan. Coverage The width of the scan. Works as a percentage. 100 is full coverage (a full circle). Angle Offset Offset the starting angle of the rotation. This is useful when using multiple scans in one

comp. This is also what would be keyframed or expressiond when Animate with Time? control is off.

Animate with Time? A control to choose whether to automatically rotate the scan or not. If disabled, custom animations can be applied to Angle Offset.

Rotations per Secondrotations per second Reverse DirectionChanges the direction of the scan. Fill Set the color of the scan. Invert produces some interesting effects. Glow Works like the standard glow effect. Draft Mode Switches off the glow and removes all feathering for faster render time. Remember to

switch this off for the final render.

    FAQ

Render times are far too long!

Glow and feather cause longer render times. Use draft mode. If this doesnt help, switch off the Glow manually and

set down the feather. Remember that you can turn down the resolution of the viewer.

The scan is not centered when I first apply it.

This is because the scan was created in a comp that is different in size from what youre using. Head into the

Center control and right-click and click Reset. You may save this animation preset again in order to keep this

new setting if this is something you find you have to do regularly.

    INTERFERE

Interfere is an RGB-split and Distort effect with expandable capabilities.

Interfere uses a module system to add effects and controls. At first, Interfere started as a single set of controls, but

as the preset evolved more and more, the controls became difficult to manage. The preset then had to be broken

    up into modules.

Interfere initially began as an RGB-split for a motion graphic video. It evolved to include distortion and soon

afterward all other modules, each deriving from different scenario that required them.

Among all the six presets, it is the most complex, but is also the most powerful.

Although it takes some time to setup, its worth it!

    SETTING UP

It is highly recommended that you work in a pre-composed environment. Also, for the first use, use this in a testcomposition rather than in a project. This setting up process will lead you through working from a comp with only

    the elements to be affected.

    1. Pre-compose all the elements to be interfered, even though it is one object. Name the pre-compSource.

    2. Add a new Null object and name it Interfere (case-sensitive).3. Search Interfere in the Effects & Presets panel.4. Apply 0 Layer Core to the Source precomp. The layer will turn black. 5. Confirm that you are at the start of the timeline and apply 1 Core to the Null object. AE may pause for a

    moment, this is normal.

    6. Rename the Source pre-comp to RED (case-sensitive). The layer will turn Red.7. Duplicate the RED layer twice and rename the duplicates to GREEN and BLUE (case-sensitive).8. Set GREEN and BLUE blend modes to ADD. The comp should now look like the original.9. Apply 2 Move, 3 Rotate and5 Distort to the Null.10. RAM Preview to see the effects.

As you may have noticed, the effects of Interfere are split up into modules. This allows for less clutter in the effects

panel and lets you add only the effect you need. Below is a breakdown of each module.

    THE MODULES

So far, Interfere has 7 modules, the most recent Scanlines added on 21/9/11. In this section, well go through

each module and the controls they add. In the following sections, elements refers to the RED, GREEN and BLUE

    layers.

In order to see the effect your changes to controls has on each element or by adding effects, keep the CTI on the

middle keyframe on the INTERFERE control in the Null.

    0 LAYER CORE

This is what is applied to the layer. Layer Core determines the colors of the objects and also applies the necessary

    effects for the other modules.

Youll notice that once applied, all layers turn black. Naming the layer RED, GREEN, BLUE, CYAN, MAGENTA or

YELLOW will turn them into those colors. To leave the layer in its normal state, name the layer WHITE.

Note that different combinations will require certain blend modes. WHITE does not require any special mode.

RED+GREEN+BLUE requires the ADD or LIGHTEN blend mode. CYAN+MAGENTA+YELLOW requires LIGHTEN blend

mode. Most of any other combination of colors requires the LIGHTEN blend mode.

Also, a layer that is already red in its original state will not show anything in the GREEN and BLUE labels for obvious

    reasons.

    1 CORE

Core is what is added to the Null first. This adds the master controls that are required to get it working. It does notproduce any visible effects when used alone. These are:

INTERFERE The master control. Determines the amount of Interference occurring. Comes with 3keyframes (0 > 10 > 0) to assist in applying and tweaking effects.

INTERFERE Frequency The frequency of interference. Lower is slower. Extend Edges Use when working with video or images, extend edges is a grow bounds control that

allows you to remove the black edges created when the image is pushed into the frame by

move/distort/rotate. Set this value as low as possible to avoid long render times.

INTERFERE Multiply A multiplier to the master control, this allows you to increase the max value of allkeyframes.

Random Seed The seed of the interference. Use this control to fix any problems such as overlappinglayers, similar animations and so on.

Core MUST be applied before any other controls.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to get the same Interference from the same Random Seed. This is due to the

formula that controls it. It has a lot of variables.

    2 MOVE

This moves the elements randomly. Move has various controls:

Horizontal Move Determines whether the layers move horizontally. This only works if Fixed MoveDirection is off.

Vertical MoveDetermines whether the layers move vertically. This only works if Fixed Move Directionis off.

Fixed Move Direction Sets a fixed direction at which the elements move. If off, the Vertical andHorizontal Move controls come into effect and the elements move in random directions.

Move Direction If Fixed Move Direction is on, this determines what that direction is. This value must

remain between 0 and 359. It will become ineffective beyond this range.

Move Amount The maximum distance the elements will move. Relative value.3 ROTATE

    This rotates the elements randomly.

Rotate Toggles the rotation control. It can also be disabled by deleting all rotation controls. Rotate Amount The max amount of rotation the elements will turn. Rotate Anchor The pivot point of the rotations.

    4 SCALE

    This randomly scales the elements.

Scale?toggles the Scale effect. Scale Amount Max amount of scale applied. Uniform Scale Determines whether the elements are scaled evenly in X and Y, or with individual

    randomness.

    5 DISTORT

    This offers various distortion controls.

Distort?Toggles distortion. Distort Settings Settings for the distortion. Consider tweaking Wave Type, Wave Width, Direction

and Antialiasing. Direction only works when Random Distort Direction is off.

    Random Distort Direction

This distorts the elements in random directions when on. If off, the distortionwill follow the Direction control in the Distort Settings section.

    6 RESULTANT

Resultant produces values via the INTERFERE master control and the Interfere formula, which can then be linked to

    other effects/controls via expressions.

Resultant (Both Ways)Produces a resultant value that goes into the positive and negative values. Resultant (Positive Only) Produces a value that is only positive. All negative values are translated to

    positive values.

    Multiplier

A multiplier to both resultant values. Use if values are going to high, or are not high enough.

    7 SCANLINES

Scanlines produces the lines across the elements that appear only during Interfere. It works great with DISTORT

    and MOVE.

SCANLINES Transition CompletionWidth of the lines.

SCANLINES Direction Direction of the lines. SCANLINES Width Width between each line. SCANLINES Feather Feather of the lines. SCANLINES MIN The lower end of the INTERFERE value when Scanlines will start taking effect.

    Explanation below.

SCANLINES MAX The higher end of the INTERFERE value when Scanlines will reach its maximum effect.Explanation below.

SCANLINES MAX and MIN are methods of limiting when SCANLINES takes effect, working like Range selectors. MIN

and MAX map the Transition Completion values to the INTERFERE value.

For example, say Transition Completion was set to 40%, MIN to 0 and MAX to 3, with the standard 0-20-0

keyframes set to INTERFERE, heres what happens.

As INTERFERE is interpolated by AE (between keyframes), when INTERFERE is 0, scanlines will be 0. When

INTERFERE is 1.5 (half of the max), scanlines will be 20% (half of completion). When INTERFERE is 3 and above,

    scanlines will be 40%.

Basically, it will map and interpolate the 0-40% of transition to the MIN and MAX values in relation to INTERFERE.

This effect is best understood in practice, so experiment with it.

SCANLINES MIN, you can decide when SCANLINES takes effect, so that if you happened to have keyframes set to

INTERFERE with low values, you can have SCANLINES MIN higher than this so that it doesnt take effect.

    8 ADJUSTMENT

The Adjustment module is applied to an Adjustment Layer. It uses Resultant to vary its opacity and standard

effects can be added to it.

INTERFERE Resultant The values its receiving from the Interfere. This value is already multiplied by themultiplier below. The Adjustments opacity is tied to this control!

MULTIPLIER A multiplier to the values coming from Interfere. Default of 30 will not exceed 100 percenton the standard reference keyframes. Adjust this value accordingly.

As you may have noticed, the Adjustment module is simply a pre-made use of Resultant.

    9 NOISE

The noise module is actually added onto a clean black solid with the ADD blend mode, rather than on the Null. It is

highly recommended that this is done as the LAST step, as it causes long render times.

NoiseSet the amount of noise and type of noise (Color or not) Residual Noise Noise that remains even when the Interfere value is zero. Opacity Multiplier A multiplier on the amount of noise during interfere. Fx_Opacity No usable controls.

Once again, remember that the noise module produces longer render times and therefore should be applied last,

    or switched off while working.

    WORKING WITH INTERFERE

Interfere can be troublesome when working with big projects. In order to avoid clutter, its best to pre-compose all

elements involved in Interfere (the Null and the three layers) so they dont interfere with your workflow. This also

allows more than one interfere to be in one composition. (since there can only be one null named Interfere).

To apply random bursts of interference, copy and paste the three initial keyframes along the timeline. You can also

apply a residual, always-on effect by changing the 0 keyframes to a low value (like 2), or removing the keys

completely and setting INTERFERE to 2. Remember, the initial keyframes are only for reference and can be

    removed.

There are tons of effects that can be produced with Interfere, especially with the Resultant module.

    Experiment!!

    FAQ

    Its not working at all!

Ensure that the Null is named Interfere with no spaces. If this doesnt resolve it, consider undoing and reapplying

the effects. Remember that Interfere only works when modules are applied.

LONG RENDER TIMES! How can I shorten them?

Switch off the Noise layer and switch off Distortion. Remember you can also turn down the resolution of the

    viewer to increase speeds.

Im tired of naming stuff WHITE, how can I keep the original colors without doing this?

Head into the layers Effects and delete the fx_COLOR, this will reset the color to normal, regardless of the name

    of the layer.

Fixed Move Direction isnt working. It just stays still.

I am not sure what causes this problem, however re-applying the effect helps resolve this issue.

    Any tips?

Try applying the values of the Resultant to a directional blur effect or turbulent displace. Also worksnicely with color effects.

Try applying similar values to Fixed Direction in the Move and the Distorts direction. Or, set themcrossing one another.

    Switch on Motion Blur!

Some modules dont work as expected.

    SPEED CHECK

Speed Check is a bonus preset that does exactly what the name says: it tells you the speed of a layer at the current

    time.

Speed Check was created for use with expressions. I once wanted a layers color to change depending on its speed,

but the problem was always that since colors use values between 0 and 1, and speeds could go as high as

thousands, I needed a way to know the speed so I could know what deviser to use.

    SETTING UP

Speed Check is fairly simple to set up.

    1. Create a new Text layer and type anything in. Preferably speed for future reference.2. Apply the Speed Check preset to the text layer.3. In the Whose Speed? section, select the layer whose speed youd like to see.

Speed Check only works with layers that have Rotation or Position keyframes, otherwise theres no speed for it to

    check.

The text of the Speed Check will always show the position value without the decimal places. Rotation values can be

referred to in the effects panel.

When applied to a solid it will only show values in Effects panel.

    CONTROLS

Whose Speed?Select the layer to show its speed values. Rotation SpeedThe speed of the rotation. Position SpeedThe speed of the position.
