In order to continue to provide our members with first class events we need members to serve as hosts, committee chairmen and board members. Sam Miloro is in charge of the this years nominating committee. The nominating committee is responsible for finding interested and qualified members to serve in a variety of capacities for the MMC. If you have an interest in serving in some capacity with the MMC please contact Sam or any member of the board. Finally, we are approaching our annual dues renewal cycle. Included with the April newsletter will be a link to the MMC website which will allow you to pay your yearly dues in a variety of ways. This year for the first time the MMC will allow the dues to be paid by means of a credit card. A link on the website will take you to a secure website hosted by our bank - Fifth Third. There you will be able to enter your credit card information to pay your dues as well as update any changes in your contact information. This method is much more secure than mailing a check with all of your bank information. It also saves you the postage and the club is absorbing the credit card fee as a convenience to our members. For those not wishing to take advantage of this, you will be able to print a form to mail together with your dues payment. On both forms you will be able to check a box to indicate no change in your contact information. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well here we are in the heart of “season”, our little island is full of seasonal residents, tourists and other travelers seeking to share our slice of paradise. February is our busiest month for activities and we kicked it off with Saturday Night Fever at the Broadway Palm hosted by Randle Grossman. The show and the dinner were outstanding.

Next up was our annual new member breakfast held at the Forest Glen Country club. We had 81 attendees of which 38 were new members and their spouses or significant others for a great event. The club sponsored the bloody marys and mimosas and the breakfast buffet featuring an omelet station was a big hit. We were all treated to the interesting stories of our new members as to their background as well as how they came to be Marco Island residents. Thanks to Jeff Dywan for hosting this event and emceeing the introductions.

Fred Stavola hosted the play “Don’t Dress for Dinner at the Sugden theater on February 3 and Margaret Moores hosted the Marco Players presentation of “Speading it Around on February 8. Both plays were excellent productions.

At our well attended February meeting Dr, Barckley Storey returned to the club to discuss prostrate health. Dr. Storey is a nationally recognized Urologist who shared a large number of health insights and current information on this important topic. The meeting was followed by a delicious luncheon at Cocomos hosted by Derek Mullinder.

This year one of the MMC’s signature events was held at the Island Country Club. Co hosts Dennis Smith and Ray Seward (actually Candy and Sharon Cook) did an outstanding job for this event. Please take some time to visit the pictures Suzy Walsh took and Ed Crane posted to the website. The ICC food was outstanding and plentiful and the band was playing a great mix of dance music and romantic slow dances. The party lasted well past Marco midnight!

Pat Wright was able to score a large number of tickets to a sold out preseason game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. It was a perfect day

for baseball and it was an exciting game with lots of offense.

We wrapped up February with an Artis presentation of “Waitress” hosted by Randle Grossman. Thank you to all who participated and hosted these events!

As I have mentioned previously, the MMC organizes and hosts over 90 events and meetings throughout the year and it is all done with the assistance of volunteers.

A warm welcome to new members John Kunzeman and Dave Linscott, we look forward to seeing you at

our future meetings and events.

MARCO MEN’S CLUB PRESENTS

THE MARCO PLAYERSBLACK TIE

FRIDAY, April 26, 2019AT The Marco Players Theater

Marco Town Center (Next to Marco Island Brewery)Performance Time: Doors open at 7:30 PM,Show starts 8:00 PM Price per Ticket: $30

A black-tie affair gets messy when cultures clash and time-honored ways of the past must be defended. An engaging comedy about generational shifts, Black Tie is insightful and touching. Father of the groom, Curtis, simply wants to make a memorable toast. But before he is able to raise his glass, he must defend the time-honored ways of his past, including his attire. Cultures clash when a surprise guest is announced, threatening to throw convention out the window. Curtis finds that balancing the standards of his late father and the needs of his future family may prove too messy for a black tie affair. "There are not many fixed verities in the world of the theater, but one of the few is that when A.R. Gurney returns to home territory—writing about the manners and morals of the white Anglo-Saxon Protestant upper class—the results will most likely be gratifying. Mr. Gurney's BLACK TIE…is one of this prolific writer's most enjoyable plays in years, a modest but effortlessly engaging comedy about the generational shifts in the subset of humanity Mr. Gurney has been writing about with warmth, humor and insight throughout his career…BLACK TIE is insightful and touching in its depiction of a man welcoming back that ghost many of us have to banish consciously from our minds as we grow older, the voice of a parent (or grandparent) that becomes an internal barometer of the propriety of our behavior, whether we like it or not." —NY Times. "A lighthearted romp about what really matters—manners…As usual, Gurney's dialog is sharp." —NYTheatre.com. "Wryly witty and warmly embracing of its characters' eccentricities and foibles, this generation-gap tale is a charmer—funny, observant, and altogether winning…highly satisfying, quietly touching…Gurney's faith in the ability of civil behavior to improve human relations may be quixotic in this increasingly selfish, solipsistic world, but this gentle cri de coeur persuasively argues that there's hardly any problem that wouldn't benefit from it." —BackSt
