President’s Message - Chapter Elections Hi Everyone, I want to say a big “Thank You” to our Chapter Members for nominat- ing and voting in some great SSGA Mem- bers to the open positions on our Board. We held our elections at our November meeting and I’m happy to say each nomi- nee was voted in and accepted those posi- tions for 2018. Flo Wiener, who served as Secretary this year, accepted the nomination for and was voted in as President. Lynne Kramer, another active member in our Chapter, was nominated for Golf Chair and Linda Davis accepted the Membership Chair nomination; both were voted in for the 2018 term. Sally Reeder, our Social Chair, has agreed to remain in that spot for 2018. Jim Johndrow, who does an out- standing job as Communications Chair, has agreed to remain in that position for the present time. Both Sally and Jim were voted in as well. Rosedale On Tuesday, November 7th, the first group of golfers from the Sarasota Chapter headed out at 11 AM to hole #1 at Rosedale Golf and Country Club. It was a beautiful sunny “fall” day in Florida, enjoyed by 17 golfers. It turned out to be a smaller group than usual, but it was a really fun day. We gathered for refreshing drinks and lunch in the Bistro Room in the Clubhouse after golf. The Pro, Corey Pion, then joined us to announce the winners of the day. We had no winners for the Closest to the Pin contests....men or women! Dave Courtright won the Longest Drive contest and, due to a mix up, there was no marker for Women’s Longest Drive. We raffled off the 3 contest prizes that had no winners in addition to the 50/50 prize raffle.

50/50 Winner!

Enjoying Lunch in the Rosedale Clubhouse

However, there were great prizes for the wining team.......make that teams! Due to a tie, the Pro decided to give a certificate for a “round of golf for 4 people”, to each golfer on both teams!! So we had quite a celebration. The happy winners were: Flo Wiener, Ginny White, Dennis Cronin, Bruce Hrycyk, Linda Davis, Lynne Kramer and Dave Courtright. The Rose-dale Golf and CC was happy to host us and look forward to having us play at their Club again.

Ask the Rules Guy ~Golf.com

While playing at a course next to some houses, my playing partner's shot came to rest against an iron gate between the course and a backyard. The ball was inbounds, but he had no swing. I noticed that his ball was in front of the gate's door and that by opening it he would have a swing. I convinced him this was a legal play. Was it? Answer This is an open-and-shut case. Per Decision 27/18, the closed gate is consid-ered part of the boundary fence, not a movable obstruction. Moving the gate violates Rule 13-2 (related to improving the area of intended swing), and brings with it a two-stroke penalty in stroke play and loss of hole in match play. Now, had the gate already been open, your playing partner could have proceeded with the gate in the position he found it in, or he could have closed it, but noth-ing in between. Here, as in most matters, the Rules do not sit on the fence.
