PRESIDENT.S MESSAGE

Kelli Rosenthal, MS,RN,BC,CRNI,ANP,APRN,BC

The Board of Directors and Leadership Team are hard at work on accomplishing sev

eral goals laid out in the strategic plan. These projects will solidify AVA's position at the

forefront of promoting vascular access best practices and include the development of

multidisciplinary clinical education programs. The Conference Committee is putting the

finishing touches on the Annual Conference in September. The Annual Conference's focus

on patient safety is timely, as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's "100,000 Lives"

campaign comes to an end. Support for AVA's "SAVE That Line!" program has demon

strated that clinicians everywhere are creating a culture of vascular access safety that

already has and will continue to save patient lives and prevent injury.

Spring is traditionally thought of as a time for growth and change,

and springtime at AVA is certainly no exception! I am pleased to

announce that early this Spring, AVA moved to a beautiful new

executive office in Clinton, Mississippi. With our growth in membership, along with the

progress made on the strategic plan, the Board of Directors and Leadership Team decided

that it was time for more space and additional personnel. Moreover, the new office's loca

tion makes it possible to best streamline our operations under one roof, as Clinton is the

home of our Executive Director, Mary Lea Nations. Our new staff members, Jean Weiss

and Teri Smith, have many years of experience in organizational management, meeting

planning, and membership services. They are already hard at work, offering unsurpassed

support and services to AVA's members. You can find their contact information and more

information about staff and the new office on page 82 in this issue. Please join me in wel

coming them aboard! If you're ever in the area, please drop by-we would love to see you!

In a related vein, we plan to decorate the new office with posters and pictures from our

members! Please feel free to email these to the office at [email protected].

I look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis in September! The recently redecorated

hotel and the proximity of the hotel to local attractions and shopping should all combine

to make this the biggest and most comprehensive AVA Annual Conference in our history.
