About The MakerA strange creature races against time to make the most important and beautiful creation of his life.

    DETAILS

    DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT CHRISTOPHER KEZELOS

The Maker explores the preciousness of our moments on earth, the short time we have with loved ones and the enjoyment of ones life’s work and purpose. In their fleeting existence our characters experience joy, love, hard work, purpose, loss and loneliness. As the tagline suggests, ‘life is what you make it’ and we are all makers in this world.

Anecdote: The Maker was initially conceptualised as a music video for a classical music composition created by my friend Paul Halley. After writing the story to the movements in the piece, it quickly became apparent that we no longer had a music video on our hands, but rather a short film. The production took place in Sydney, Australia, the puppets were designed by US artists Amanda Louise Spayd and the compositing and FX were done by Monkeyhut VFX in the UK, making this a truly international collaboration.

During this time, he’s received accolades from the Australian Cinematographers Society, winning several NSW silver and gold awards and a national ACS Award of Achievement in Cinematography. He is currently employed as the series Director of Photography for “Home and Away”, one of Australia’s most watched dramas.

    AMANDA LOUISE SPAYDPUPPET CREATOR

Amanda Louise Spayd is a professional mixed-media artist from Ohio. Graduating with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration in 2002, she worked as a designer in the social expressions industry for 8 years before pursuing her own art fulltime.

Amanda’s work is a dichotomy of art and craft, sculpture and plaything. The cloth creatures invoke both feelings of whimsy and pity; the stark eyes and human teeth playing against vintage floral cotton, pastel ribbons, and dirty ruffles.

Her work is highly sought after by collectors around the globe, and has been exhibited in galleries, boutiques, and conventions across the United States.

    PAUL HALLEYCOMPOSER

Paul Halley is one of Australia’s most popular and innovative composers of classical music, blending elements of traditional classical styles with a distinctive modern edge. With his beautifully melodic and intensely dramatic music he’s making a considerable reputation for himself as a composer of highly likeable, contemporary classical music.

Drawing on influences primarily from the classical masters such as Beethoven, Bach and Mozart, Paul also draws inspiration from sources as varied as medieval music, cinematic scores, The Beatles and Metallica.

Paul regularly puts on performances with his string quartet “The Halley Quartet”. Some of his popular works include “Midnight”, “The Hand Of Fate” and “Angel”.
