DENVILLE
A Century of Excellence
PRESS RELEASE
The Township of Denville is pleased to announce that on Monday, April 29, 2013 it received
notification from Governor Christies Office that Denville was the recipient of two (2) grants in
excess of a million dollars for local infrastructure improvements. Both of the grants awarded to
Denville are administered through the NJ Department of Transportation.
Specifically, the Township received full funding in the amount of $240,000 for the Franklin Road
Resurfacing Project. The project will result in the resurfacing of Franklin Road starting at its
intersection with Rt-46 for a total of approximately 1.25 miles, ending just prior to the NJ Transit
train trestle. It is anticipated that this project shall be completed in late-summer 2013. Traffic
advisories shall be sent on via Nixle alerts as well as being posted upon the Township website
(www.denvillenj.org) to advise local residents of detours and/or road closings associated with the
resurfacing.
Additionally, the Township was awarded $288,000 for its proposed Downtown Streetscape
Improvement Project Phase I. This grant was obtained with the assistance of professional grant
writing firm Community Grants and Planning, LLC based in East Windsor, NJ with whom the
Mayor and Township Council contracted starting in mid-2012 in order to capitalize on available
State & Federal grant funding opportunities. The aforementioned streetscape project, which shall
be implemented over the next several years in multiple phases, is aimed at beautifying our
downtown principally by replacing the aged curbing, performing uniform landscaping adjacent to
the curb line and, in subsequent phases, replacing the impersonal cobra street lights with
decorative yet functional antique-style street lamps.
Upon learning of the successful grant awards, Mayor Thomas Andes commented, I am very
pleased that the Townships aggressive grant writing campaign has been so successful and we are
able to undertake critical infrastructure improvements with little or no local budgetary impact.
Mayor Andes further stated, I must commend the residents and business owners of Denville, as
the dozens of letter sent in support of these grant applications to our elected State representatives
was certainly a decisive factor in the States decision to fund these very worthwhile and important
quality of life improvement projects.
