Company Profile Manufacturing ExcellenceAbout Elfab

Leading the industry in pressure management innovation

As a global manufacturer of rupture discs, explosion vents and associated detection systems, Elfab’s intelligent pressure relief systems protect people, plant, processes and the environment across the globe. With the most technically advanced products on the market Elfab delivers unique design, testing and consultancy services for pressure management.

Elfab Limited is a British company owned by Halma plc since 1993. Halma has grown to be an established FTSE 100 business and currently comprises over 50+ subsidiary companies operating worldwide.

Products

Rupture Discs

Elfab has a wide variety of rupture discs offering some of the highest performance specifications on the market for a variety of applications and industries. Excellently manufactured for an accurate burst control, Elfab’s reverse rupture disc range is capable of operating at up to 95% of rated burst pressure with an industry leading 3% tolerance.

OEM & Rupture Disc Plugs

Elfab’s expertise in developing custom engineered solutions has been applied in a diverse range of industries. Working to the highest possible standards, our unique design for manufacture approach allows us to tailor our products to meet the requirements of individual projects. Elfab has built up significant experience in the design and manufacture of plugs, unions and other small disc assemblies, producing a wide range of variations to supply a diverse customer base.

Explosion Vents

Elfab’s full opening, non-fragmenting explosion vents are used to protect against the hazards of dust explosions within a wide range of applications, including silos, bucket elevators, and gas engine and turbine exhausts. An extensive range of sizes, shapes and configurations is available depending on the specific application requirements, from a cost-effective single-skinned design, to a more robust multi-layered solution. Both flat and domed designs are offered, covering an extensive range of burst pressures.

Holders & Accessories

Elfab manufactures rupture disc holders to suit industry standard flange specifications, as well as a range of accessories to ensure the correct performance of our rupture discs.

Sensors & Detection

Without suitable burst detection systems in place companies face a number of environmental, health & safety and cost risks. With increases in environmental concerns and the push towards zero emissions, companies cannot run the risk of operating their plants without suitable detection systems in place. Elfab has a range of ATEX and IECEx approved detection systems designed to meet customer and plant infrastructure requirements.

Manufacturing Facilities

Elfab’s state of the art manufacturing facility is based in North East England. It is accredited in accordance with Quality Management System ISO9001, Environmental Management System ISO 14001 and Health and Safety accreditation OHSAS 18001. In addition, a selection of Elfab products conform to ATEX, IECEx, ASME, CU TR 032, PED, TUV and SQL. Please contact us for details on individual product approvals.

Custom Engineered Solutions

Elfab leads the industry in providing electron beam welding capability that produces the highest integrity joint possible, meeting required specifications, reducing the risk of leakage problems and preventing premature failure. Elfab ensures all welded products are tested for leaks up to 10-8cc/sec. Uniquely, this process removes issues or variability found in many other welding processes. This enables Elfab to produce bursting discs with advanced tolerances of +/- 3%.

Our custom engineered solutions provide exceptional leak tightness, excellent operational performance and ease of installation.

Cell Based Manufacturing

Many of Elfab’s rupture discs incorporate a score line. The score line provides the critical point of engineered weakness that enables each disc to rupture at an exact and predictable pressure, and therefore has to be produced to extremely accurate tolerances. The servo press systems are used to form the score lines in each rupture disc using specially developed tooling. This, in combination with elements of Elfab’s unique cell based manufacturing process, allows +/- 3% to be standard on reverse acting discs.

Cell based manufacturing helps to reduce set up times, enable improved levels of precision, repeatability and traceability.

Testing and Inspection Facilities

Elfab has on site state of the art testing and inspection facilities. The in-house sample preparation, inspection and testing lab typically enables individual disc samples to be produced in less than 10 minutes. Elfab fully tests and inspects all discs prior to installation, reducing customers’ test schedules and delivering long term reliability. High-end inspection and analysis software allows for detailed visual examination of bursting disc assemblies to check that no defects exist. Using its custom-built rig, Elfab can carry out helium leak testing of bursting disc assemblies, to better than 10-8cc/sec.

Using specialist equipment, even the most delicate disc assembly can be analysed.

Automation Lines

Elfab is able to produce a vast range of OEM assemblies with their automation lines. The fully automatic machine is capable of rapidly producing large volumes of capped assemblies in a wide variety of sizes, designs and burst pressures. With unique in-house CAD design capabilities Elfab is able to produce a wide range of customer specific designs to meet exact requirements. The automation line manages the entire process from foil through to packing, ready for shipment.

Elfab is positioned to more efficiently and competitively meet customer requirements, offering cost effective solutions with greater flexibility, responsiveness and faster delivery times.

Ribbed Explosion Vent Economical space-saving single-layer explosion panel suitable for low to medium vacuum applications

Dusty conditions commonly associated with the storage and handling of grains and powders can potentially lead to dangerous explosions. The robust construction of Elfab’s Ribbed design explosion vent ensures operational excellence even when low to medium levels of vacuum are present.

The Ribbed Explosion Vent is maintenance free and a non-torque dependent product, ensuring ease and speed of installation. This, combined with the low storage costs of the design, ensures it is one of the most cost effective explosion bursting panels available.

• Withstands low levels of vacuum without additional support

• Ribbed construction ensures robust, reliable performance

• Fail-safe rapid full venting

• Low installation costs

• Maintenance free

• Excellent corrosion resistance

• Dust tight seal
