Pressure swing adsorption (PSA)

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is a technology used toseparate a single gas from a mixture of gases as well as todry and clean gases.

Single gas components are adsorbed by beds of adsorbentmaterial at ambient temperature and at high pressure whilethe rest of the gas components that are not adsorbed passthrough the adsorbent bed.

The regeneration of the adsorbent bed is achieved byraising the temperature or reducing (equalizing) thepressure. The advantage of pressure equalization is that itcan be performed quickly.

The PSA process can be divided into four stages that occurin cycles:

Adsorption at high pressure

Equalization

Purging with target gas at low pressure

Pressurization

The purity and quantity of the target gas strongly dependson the control valves in the process.

The requirements placed on the control valves used in the process includeexcellent tight shut-off, fast opening and closing times and a high level ofoperational reliability.

Pfeiffer has developed Series 14b - PSA Double-eccentric Control and Shut-off Butterfly Valve to meet these process requirements.

The high-performance butterfly valve, which allows the medium to flowthrough the valve in both directions, has the following special features:

Valve size DN 80 to 400 (NPS 3 to 16)

Pressure rating PN 10 to40 (Class 150 and 300)

Body made of steel (A216 WCB/1.0619) or stainless steel(A351 CF8M/1.4408)

Lug-type or wafer-type

Face-to-face dimensions for standard version according toDIN EN 558 Series 16 and API 609

Soft seated (PTFE or FKM/FPM)

Operating temperature from –20 to +180 °C (–4 to +356 °F)

Gas tight on both sides

Shaft seal meets TA Luft requirements

Attachment options according to DIN ISO 5211

The following accessories are available for the control valves eitherindividually or in combination:

Positioner

Limit switch

Solenoid valves

Supply air reducing stations

Pressure gauge mounting blocks

Further accessories are available on request to meetcustomer requirements.
