Billy Kaufman III and Dixie Kaufman took their love for the base-ball to a new level, by having the first ever wedding ceremony over Preston School District’s home plate, on June 18. “The one thing my husband loves even more than me and the kids is baseball,” Pres-
ton-native Dixie said. It was a Boston Red Sox-themed wedding with homemade Boston Red Sox uniforms for the men and boys in the lineup, and matching pillowcase dresses for the younger girls. In-stead of throwing the traditional flowers, the boys threw concessions normally found at a baseball game– pop-corn, peanuts, and sun-
flower seeds. The couple current-ly has a son going through chemotherapy, which keeps them both busy and away from home. As a result, the family of the bride and groom really stepped up to the plate and set out to create a wedding that would make a memory to last a lifetime. “It was a lot of fun coordinating an entire
baseball-themed wed-ding, the whole family and I knew that they just needed to get married over home plate,” said Theresa Atkinson, moth-er of Billy. “It really was one of the most enter-taining weddings I have ever been a part of, and everything fell into place very smoothly.” Atkinson is a huge New York Yankees fan and she said that she and her son butt heads all the time over their teams. However, she was forced to switch sides for the day of the wedding. In addition to the help from the family, other Preston locals were involved in mak-ing the wedding a spe-cial day. Rex Pitcher, owner and founder of Plastic Industries, loaned his hotdog ma-chine for the reception and Preston beautician, Laci Smith, styled Di-xie’s hair. Preston High School’s athletic direc-tor, Brent Knapp, said this was the first time a wedding has ever taken place on the baseball di-
amond. He and the baseball coach Scott Madsen, were very ex-cited that the field would be used for a wedding. The newlyweds
grew up in Preston and both attended PHS. They currently live in Bear Lake, but are plan-ning on moving back to Preston in the near fu-ture.
