Injuries

• When we enjoy sport, there is nothing worse than having to watch a match on the sidelines, because we are resting an injury

• Professional players have the worry of not being able to get back into the team

• They worry that they will take too long to return to their best, or that the injury will be too severe for them to return

• In professional sport, the medical back-up is excellent, because it is costly to have an expensive player sitting on the sidelines injured

• The performance of the team may suffer as some injuries take a good deal of time to heal

Risk assessment

• Before taking part in a sporting activity, it is important to consider any safety hazards, eg:– Are playing surfaces clear of debris and

other hazards?– Are weather conditions dangerous (eg for

walking, running, kayaking, sailing)?– Is equipment safe and in good condition?– Are you using correct techniques (eg for

lifting heavy equipment, landing safely) and following any safety procedures?

– Do you know which injuries could result from the activity?
