Stimulants
• Stimulants are well known as party drugs because they keep users alert and awake all night. Stimulants are the drug of choice for young people in dance clubs and festivals, giving them the energy and mindset to dance all evening and even into the next day.
• Stimulants work by speeding up the messages going between the brain and the body through an increase in the activity of the central nervous system. Some commonly used stimulants include speed, cocaine and ecstasy.
• Euphoric feelings are one of the major reasons that users choose to partake in stimulants. They are a result of an increase and build up of Dopamine in the brain, the neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of pleasure.

Depressants• Depressants work by slowing down the messages between the brain and the body
by slowing down the activity of the central nervous system. The most commonly used legal depressant is alcohol, while Heroin is the most commonly used illegal depressant.
• Their effects can vary greatly depending on the amount taken. For example, Cannabis is generally considered a depressant, but in larger amounts it can act like a hallucinogen.
• These listed affects of depressants are the sought after effects. Taking depressants in large quantities, frequently or in conjunction with other depressants or other drugs will likely have many other less desirable side effects. For example, when combining depressants, the effects increment exponentially, not linearly and overdose in this manner is quite common.

Hallucinogens
• Hallucinogens interfere with the brain and central nervous system in a way that results in radical distortions of a user’s perception of reality.
• Profound images, sounds and sensations will be experienced, but they will not actually exist. These are vivid hallucinations
