What is Prezi? Prezi is a U.S. software company, producing a cloud-based (SaaS) presentation software and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. The product employs a Zooming User Interface (ZUI), which allows users to zoom in and out of their presentation media, and allows users to display and navigate through information.

How to begin in Prezi: 1. Go to http://prezi.com

2. At the top right hand corner, underneath the password box, click on the sign up link.

3. In the first column that says public, go to the bottom and click get (free). Unless you would like advanced features so pick either enjoy or pro (these cost money).

4. In order to get a Prezi login, the registration needs your name, email, and what you would like your password to be.

5. In registration, type in the information, add the word password, and check the terms of use. Click Register and continue.

6. Now, click on this link to learn about the basics of Prezi https://prezi.zendesk.com/entries/23448918-Get-Started-with-Prezi

How do I create a new prezi? How do I create a new prezi?

1. Go to your prezi library and click the '+ New prezi' icon and you'll start

up the online editor.

Note: A new prezi will begin its life without a title.

2. To add a title and a description, click the 'close' button in the top-right corner or the editor window. This will save and exit your current Prezi session and take you to your prezi's landing page.

3. From the landing page, you can edit your prezi's title and description.

To change the title or description of your prezi: 1. Select a prezi from your prezi library. 2. To edit the Title of your prezi, hover your cursor over the title

and wait for the 'Edit' button to appear. 3. Click the button to start changing your title. 4. Follow the same steps to edit your prezi's description.

“Borrow” from other prezis On the Prezi Explore page you can find loads of great prezis from which you can “borrow” content, animations or even sound effects. Reusing content in this way allows you to share your ideas more effectively and is a great way to get started with Prezi. To use content from another prezi:

1. First select a reusable prezi you like from the Explore page 2. Click ‘Save a copy’ to place a copy of the prezi in your own

prezi library 3. From here, you can open the prezi and start putting your

own content into it. 4. Alternatively, cut and paste the elements you like into one of your own prezis.

Start from a template

When you create a prezi, you can choose from a number of reusable templates or a blank canvas. When you decide to use a template, you can edit everything you see on the canvas just as if you were creating your own prezi, including copying and pasting pre-made content from other prezis or applications.

Customize colors and fonts: Theme Wizard

Use the Theme Wizard to customize the colors of your prezi and to set your font choices from Prezi's font library. You can also create branded Prezi themes by adding custom colors to the wizard. Paying users (Pro, EduPro, Enjoy, and EduEnjoy license holders) can even add their own logo to a customized theme.

Navigate the canvas

Getting around your prezi canvas couldn’t be easier.

Zooming around: This is a key feature of Prezi, so naturally we made it simple.

You can zoom in and out by using your mouse’s scroll wheel or by clicking the + and - symbols on the right hand side of your screen.

Panning: To move your prezi canvas left, right, up, or down.

Hold down the left button of your mouse and then move in the direction you want to go.

Get to know the Transformation Tool

In Prezi, the Transformation Tool is your best friend. Once you add anything to your canvas, click on it once to bring up the Transformation Tool. Now you can move, size, and rotate your content any way you like. If you add a frame to your prezi, you can click on it once to bring up the Transformation Tool and move, scale, or rotate everything inside.

Getting to know the Prezi editor

The Prezi editor is the very heart of the Prezi experience, it's the tool that allows you to create wonderful zooming prezis. This will look at the question - "what do i need to do?" so that so you can get to know the editor and all its possibilities.

You can access the editor from any Internet browser using your Prezi account. Alternatively, if you are a Pro license holder, you can access the editor from Prezi Desktop.

The Prezi editor was created with ease of use in mind, and has a carefully selected and developed set of tools that help you to develop and communicate your ideas. The key interface components of the editor are:

Zoomable Prezi Canvas. Place your texts, images, and videos here on the Prezi canvas. You can make them as large or small as you want, and then use Prezi to help you navigate between them.

Top Menu.

Left-hand side - From here, you can: present your prezi, save the prezi you are working on, undo your most recent action, or redo something that you just undid.

Center - Find all the tools you need to create prezi presentations.

Right-hand side - These buttons give you access to Prezi Meeting, sharing options, and help, as well as the option to exit (this will also save) your current Prezi session.

5 Transformation Tool. This simple tool lets you easily manipulate objects on the zoomable space. Use the Tool to increase and decrease the size of any selected object or text.

Text Boxes. Use these to write and stylize your text. You can click the 'Template' button on the top menu to bring up the Theme Wizard, which will allow you to edit your text choices in more detail.

Home & Zoom Buttons. Anchor Botton – Zoom in and out, or get an overview by clicking the home button.

Left Sidebar: Here you can navigate a sequential journey through your prezi canvas.

How do I rotate?

When Prezi replaced the Transformation Zebra with the Transformation Tool, one of the biggest changes was to how objects are rotated on a prezi canvas. For more details on the Transformation Tool, you can click here. For more on rotation, read on.

Rotation

To rotate any object (including invisible frames) on your prezi canvas, simply click on it to bring up the Transformation Tool and then hover your mouse pointer over one of the four corners. You will see your pointer change to an arrow icon, if you move your mouse away from the object you have selected, you will see the straight arrow change to a curved one. This means you are ready to rotate your object. Click and drag when you see the curved arrow icon to rotate

the object.

Anchor yourself on the canvas: The Home Button

To take a step back and get an overview of everything you've added so far (both in Edit and Present mode), you can use the Home button on the right hand side of your screen (you can find it just above the zoom + and - buttons). Clicking the Home button before you start making a prezi will also ensure that you're starting from the right place.

Frame your content

6 Frames are a signature part of Prezi and a great way to manage your content. Frames work like slides and can be used to group your ideas. Use frames to create a placeholder in your prezi and then add content to them. Frames come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you can change the color of them as well as their size and position. The other great thing about frames is that once you place one on your prezi canvas, you can move, size, and rotate it, and all the content within your frame will move, size, and rotate too.

Create frames: 1. Choose 'Frames & Arrows' from the top menu. 2. Then choose whether you want a circle, rectangle, bracket, or invisible frame.

Use frames to add animation and take your audience through your prezi.

Insert diagrams

Prezi has created layout drawings, diagrams, and charts that can help you better communicate your ideas to your audience.

Quickly add content to your diagrams, and duplicate them (using the right-click menu or keyboard shortcuts) to start filling your prezi with inspiring content.

Add symbols and shapes

Click 'Insert' and then select the ‘Symbols and shapes’ icon at the top of the screen to add shapes, lines, arrows, and more to your prezi.

Insert rectangles, circles, and triangles to frame your content. Alternatively, add symbols from a huge library or purpose designed drawings to further enhance your prezi.

Add URLS to your Prezi

To put live links into your prezi, copy and paste the desired URL into a text box. Then click away from the text box and your link will become active (you will see it automatically underline).

Picture as a background image:

To get the picture as a background image: 1. increase the size of the image until it is the

desired size. 2. Right click 3. press the "send to back" option.

Note: if the image is not high resolution then it will be pixelated when you are zoomed in.

Adding sound to your prezi

Adding sound to a prezi is a great way to enhance the presentation of your ideas. Sound can be particularly useful for a prezi that you intend to embed on a website or play on a continuous loop. This feature was created with voiceovers in mind and is therefore primarily intended to create a better presentation experience for prezis that are displayed online without a presenter. There are two kinds of sounds you can add to a prezi. 1. The first is a background track that will continuously play whenever your prezi is viewed. 2. Alternatively, you can add sounds to specific path steps. These will begin to play only when you reach the

chosen path step. They will stop playing when you move to the next path step. *Important Note: Currently, prezi supports the following audio file formats: MP3, M4A, FLAC, WMA, WAV, OGG, AAC, MP4, 3GP.

To add a background track to a prezi:

1. Select 'Insert' from the top menu. 2. Click on 'Add Background Music'. 3. Browse to the location of the file you want to use and

upload it into your prezi. 4. Once you have selected your background track, you

will see it start to upload into your prezi. 5. Once the process is completed, you can click the triangle to play the track, or click 'Done' to continue editing

your prezi. 6. You can stop the upload before it has completed

using the 'Cancel' button. 7. Your background track will now start playing

when you enter Present Mode. It will continuously play as long as the prezi is open in Present Mode.

8. To remove the track from your prezi, select the track where it appears in the Left Sidebar, and then click on the trashcan icon.

To add a sound to a path step.

1. From the Left Sidebar, click on the thumbnail for the path step you want to add sound to.

2. Then select 'Add voice-over to Path Step' from the 'Insert' menu.

3. Alternatively you can right-click on the path step's thumbnail and

select 'Add Sound to Path Step'. 4. Browse to the location of the file you want to upload. 5. Once you have selected your sound file, you will see it start to

upload into your prezi. 6. Once the process is completed, you can click the triangle to play

the track, or click 'Done' to continue editing you prezi. 7. You can stop the upload before it has completed using the

'Cancel' button. 8. The sound will play every time you reach the path step when in

Present Mode. 9. Adding sound to path steps or as a backing track will

cause a play button and mute control to appear as part of the playback interface.

10. You can use these to play your prezi and mute the sounds you have inserted. These will also appear when a prezi is embedded into a website.

11. To remove a sound from a path step, select the path step thumbnail from the Left Sidebar, click on the sound's filename at the top of the thumbnail, and then select the trashcan icon.

12. If you want to see the full name of the sound file that you have attached to a path step, hover over the name of the track as it appears at the top of the thumbnail in the Left Sidebar.

13. If you want to replace the sound file you have assigned to a path step with a different file, right-click on the thumbnail and select 'Replace Sound on Path Step'.

Path: navigate and rearrange with the Path sidebar

When presenting your ideas, it can sometimes help to have a clear narrative that takes your audience through your prezi. With the Left Sidebar, you can create a journey from one idea to the next. Edit your path and its points in Edit mode and take your audience along that path in Present mode.

1. To set your path, click the pencil icon on the left-hand side of screen. 2. Then click on the objects in your prezi canvas in the order you wish them to appear.

You can also use the sidebar to rearrange and delete path points or to zoom to a specific path point.

Edit Mode & Present Mode

In Prezi, there are two modes: Edit Mode

and Present Mode.

Edit Mode: Designed for creating and changing everything within your prezi.

Edit Mode displays all of the buttons and controls that you need for editing your prezi at the top of the screen.

You can find the Left Sidebar for editing your prezi's path on the left-hand side.

By default, Prezi starts up in Edit Mode.

In this mode, Prezi won't zoom around when you click on objects.

You can zoom around your canvas using the buttons on the right of the screen or by using your mouse.

Page 10: Prezi Tutorial Table of Content - hasd.org Instructions.pdf1 Prezi Tutorial Table of Content What is Prezi How to begin in Prezi How do I create a new Prezi To change the title or

10

Present Mode: Designed for presenting and for fast navigation between items in a prezi.

All the menus are automatically hidden, which gives you a clean presentation space.

You can click on objects to zoom in on them and then click empty space in the background to zoom out.

The forward and back arrows at the bottom of the screen will take you along your prezi's path. You can achieve the same result by pushing the left and right arrows on your keyboard.

The home and zoom buttons remain on the right-hand side. However, they will automatically hide. To bring them back, just move your mouse toward the right-hand side of the screen.

How to move between Edit and Present modes: By default, Prezi starts in Edit Mode. To switch to Present Mode simply click the 'Present' button in the top-left corner of the screen.

To return to Edit Mode, you can click the X at the bottom right of the screen. If you can't see the X it's because the menu has autohidden it: hover the mouse over the bottom part of your screen and it will reappear. You can achieve the same result by hitting the ESC key on your keyboard.

Copying and pasting Duplicating objects:

1. Click on the text or object that you wish to duplicate. 2. Press Ctrl+D (command+D on Macs) to duplicate it.

To copy or duplicate multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key (command on Macs) and click on each item, or hold down the SHIFT key and drag your cursor around the objects you want to select.

Copying and Pasting within a prezi: Use Ctrl+C (command+C on Macs) to copy any object or piece of text to your clipboard and Ctrl+V (command+V on Macs) to paste into your prezi.

Copying and Pasting between prezis: You can also paste content from one prezi into another using the keyboard commands above (it doesn't matter if you close the prezi you are copying from before you paste into the second prezi).

Duplicating prezis (save a copy) How to duplicate a prezi: Select a prezi from your prezi library and scroll to the options that come on the landing page (these options are not available from within the editor).

From the toolbar of options, click on 'Save a copy' to duplicate your prezi. When you click on 'Save a copy', a duplicate of the prezi will be saved as the first prezi in your prezi library. To change the title of this prezi just follow the steps described here.

How to delete a Prezi

If, for any reason you want to remove a prezi from your library, you can do this anytime.

Go to your prezi library, find the prezi you want to delete, and click on it.

To delete a prezi from your library, click on the trash can icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

You can even delete a prezi directly from your Prezi library page without having to bring up the prezi's landing page. From your library page, locate the prezi you want to delete and hover your mouse over the thumbnail of that prezi. You will see two icons appear at the top of the thumbnail. Click the trash icon to delete the prezi.

Five simple steps to a great Prezi

Mastered the basics? It's time to take your prezis to the next level. Use the tips below to do even more cool things with your prezi.

1. Reduce clutter with invisible frames

Invisible frames help you organize your content without the added visual of a conventional frame. They are ideal for highlighting details on a large image or block of text. Invisible frames are also really useful if you want to present your prezi without setting a predefined path.

To add an invisible frame to your prezi, select ‘Draw Invisible Frame’ from the ‘Frames & Arrows’ option on the top menu.

Then click on the canvas and drag your cursor around the content you want to put in your invisible frame. Invisible frames appear with a faded blue outline.

Invisible frames can also be added to your prezi if you click on 'Add current view' when editing your prezi's path. This will generate an invisible frame based on the actual view that is currently filling your screen,

and it will also add a step to your path.

Layer text and objects: send backward, bring forward

The ability to send objects backward or bring them forward allows you to layer items in your prezi. This is particularly useful when you have a frame around several items or a background image that overlaps with objects in your prezi. To Send Backward or Bring Forward, bring up the Transformation Tool by clicking once on the object you want to move forward or back and then right-click on it to access the secondary editing options.

Page 12: Prezi Tutorial Table of Content - hasd.org Instructions.pdf1 Prezi Tutorial Table of Content What is Prezi How to begin in Prezi How do I create a new Prezi To change the title or

12

2. Use size and rotation to convey meaning

In Prezi, you can use size and rotation to emphasize a point. You already know how to use the Transformation Tool to make your main points larger and the details smaller.

To take your prezi to the next level, you can rotate text and objects to help the audience visually experience the circularity, curvature, and, of course, rotation contained within your prezi.

Rotation is a great method for representing nonlinear concepts such as turning a corner or looking at something from a different angle.

3. The projector aspect ratio: drawing 4:3 frames

If you are going to use a projector to present your prezis, you can plan ahead while you’re creating. Most laptops are widescreen, but most projectors use the 4:3 aspect ratio. To draw frames in this aspect ratio, hold down the SHIFT key while drawing a frame (bracket or rectangular) to keep it at the 4:3 ratio. Then you will know exactly how your prezi will appear when projected.

4. Make your transitions smoother

Creating smooth transitions from one path point to the next is an essential part of creating a good prezi. Some general tips include:

1. Don’t overdo rotation - it could make your audience a little nauseous. 2. Show an overview at regular intervals to give your audience some context. 3. Create path points that are not long distances apart. Zooming and rotating from one side of the canvas

to another can be disorienting for the people watching
