“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Videos in the context of the new primary curriculum... ...by the end of Year Two that pupils "should be taught" to use the terms beach, coast, forest, hill, mountain, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation, weather, city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office and shop. These are everyday words – but they are learned in conversation and from reading, not by being didactically taught by teachers. Help tight budgets: they bring geographical places an concepts ‘to life’ for free
Inspire new perspectives: awe and wonder, show us the distant/ inaccessible, see from on high, scale
Practise enquiry: encourage deep looking, rewatching, vocabulary development, preparation for fieldtrips
Use as a starter: role play, using photopacks, web research, games, use to create a data set (tally etc)
Variety: death by worksheet/flipchart, we avoid ‘single images’ of a place

Google nose!
Meeting the needs of your local geography using Google Streetview.
Take several locations and record. Then use contrasting locations.
Can pupils create a musical soundtrack/poem to accompany? Can they create a bingo game to go with it?
