Should we give half of Earth to

wild animals ?

Wild animals live outside

and look after themselves, not in people’s homes!

Why are some animals in danger?

All animals have a habitat. Do you know what

this is? Some habitats include:

To stay healthy, animals need…

Food to eat

Water to drink

A safe place to

sleep…

and raise their

young!

Have a guess

using the

pictures!

The forest… the ocean… or the desert!

A habitat is a place where

the animal lives. It has everything the animal

needs to stay alive!

Activity (5 mins)

Look at three pictures on the next three slides.

Can you:

1. Name the animal?

2. Try to name its habitat (e.g. forest, ocean,

desert)?

3. Decide why it could be in danger (think

about water, food, shelter).

Habitat:

The place where an animal

lives.

Sadly, some animals on our Earth are in danger.

Let’s find out why…

Not sure?

Don’t worry! You will find out

the answers at the end!

Sadly, many animals around the world are in danger

because their habitats are being destroyed by humans.

The ocean has lots of plastic rubbish in it,

which animals like this whale Shark might eat

because it looks like food!

Our planet is getting warmer, which

means some elephants don’t have

enough water to drink.

Habitat:

The place where an animal lives.

The orangutan’s habitat, the

rainforest, is being chopped down

to make space to grow food.

How can you help?

A great way to help animals that are endangered is to take care of their

habitats, so they live long and happy lives!

If humans all around

the world work

together to do this,

then more animals can

live happily without

being endangered!

It is not just animals

from different countries

that are endangered.

Lots of animals here in

the UK are also at risk.

Hazel DormouseTortoiseshell Butterfly

Hedgehog Red Squirrel

Do you know

what any of

these are?

Click the hedgehog to find out

how you can help them. Then

pick one animal from the list (or

your own) and come up with

three ways that you can help

look after its habitat!

Yes No

• If we don’t want animals to

become extinct then we need to

give them more space.

• It is only fair that we give half of

the world to wildlife. We will still

have the other half to live in.

• Animals are very important for

keeping our world balanced!

• …

Should we give half of Earth to

wild animals?

• Animals can live in zoos and

farms in urban areas and survive

that way.

• There are too many people in

the world – we won’t all fit in 50%

of the world.

• 50% is a bit too much, but we

should keep it as it is now.

• …
