  • • Despite the recession and global economic

slowdown the fuel cell industry saw an increase in

    shipments of 41% in 2009.

    • As anticipated, stationary fuel cells experienced

the highest rate of growth, with an annual jump of

some 134% to around 9,000 units.

some 134% to around 9,000 units.

    • 2009 saw some 170 MWs shipped of which

stations represented approximately 80% of this.

    • 97% of all units shipped in 2009 were low

temperature fuel cells, with PEM fuel cells

    accounting for 73% of this.

    • In terms of fuel 2009 was dominated by direct

hydrogen with “Other” taking a significantly

    increasing share.

  • Residential:Japan – leader in creating market demand by switching government

subsidy away from the technology developers to the adopters

Germany – set out a number of technical and adoption based targets

for residential (1-5kW; PEM, SOFC) fuel cells.

The 2020 vision is to have 72,000 residential units produced per

  • Prva elektrana na vodik na svijetu

•Italian power company Enel on August 14, 2009

announced that it started operating a 12 MW

hydrogen-powered electricity plant in Fusina in

Venice’s industrial zone of Porto Marghera.

•The combined cycle plant is the first of its kind in the

world to operate on such a scale.

•Powered by hydrogen by-products from local

petrochemical industries such as the ENI Group’s petrochemical industries such as the ENI Group’s

    Polimeri Europa factory,

•It can meet the needs of 20,000 families, while

saving emissions equivalent to more than 17,000

tonnes of carbon dioxide a year .

•The power station is part of the Hydrogen Park

project, launched by the Venice region and Italy’s

environment ministry financed by € 4 mln with the

aim to promote the development and implementation

of hydrogen technologies in transportation and

electricity generation in the Porto Marghera area.
